On August 16, 1993, in Columbus, Ohio, 37-year-old Doug Conely positioned a white plastic lawn chair at a residential intersection, pointing a .38-caliber revolver at his head.

Following the arrival of law enforcement, renowned Columbus SWAT sniper Mike Plumb, a Vietnam War veteran, positioned himself for what would become one of the most remarkable demonstrations of marksmanship ever captured on camera.

Equipped with a Steyr SSG PII and positioned about 82 yards away, Plumb took precise aim. Upon receiving the command, he fired a round directly through the cylinder of Conely's .38 Special.

As the authorities tackled a stunned, now-disarmed Conley, the suicidal man said: "That was a great shot."
