@TylerDinucci I think People Online overestimate the public’s knowledge of JK Rowling’s stance on trans folks. I know so many normie libs who support trans rights and yet were completely oblivious.
@Chris_Gothner@jacklarsonok@maxdubler We moved from the city to a first-ring burb so my husband’s commute to a third-ring suburban school was more tolerable after starting a family. We don’t dislike where we live, but ultimately we left the city for the job!
Huge police presence on Highway 100 just north of 394. Cops out of their vehicles running around and parked at different spots on cloverleaf exchange. Traffic at a standstill. Felt like maybe this was more than just a crash.
@Dayonevirgo@kpottermn So the international connections security line is separate at IAH? I definitely don’t have a long enough layover if I’m looking at 3-4 hours in security.
Minneapolis trash system > everywhere else in the metro. Put it out and it’s collected. Now that I’m in the burbs I have to call haulers to get rates (that they’ll jack up) and my pickup day for trash isn’t the same as recycling and organics. Madness! https://t.co/wGWohQskhR
@TheOmniZaddy This is a good foundation and what we’re doing (at least for a few months) with our baby once I’m off parental leave. But it’s not without its own challenges! It requires grandparents to commit to a pretty rigid schedule M-F and backups for sickness or if they want to travel.
We did it. We did it, Joe (escaped the crazy politics of Minneapolis).
I’ll actually miss living in the city, but finding a mid century gem less than 10 minutes from downtown and not having a daily battle with south Minneapolis traffic are huge pluses.
@sdho I’ve found it’s the local road construction that has been particularly bad. Earlier this year, it felt almost impossible to even get to the highway from my house without significant delays and/or detours. Once on the highway it was…mostly fine.
@natehoodstp Last week, someone tried to steal a car on our street in broad daylight while people watched (and called the police on him). A few days later, a teenager was robbed at gunpoint right at our intersection. This is sort of stuff that drives families out of the city.
@TheJvandy Got married last September and we got our suits at Atmosfere in the North Loop. Had a great experience and it was nice to support a small local business! Unsure about their turnaround times though.
@zacharywefel My husband’s district did a classroom ban (I *think* high schoolers can use them during passing time and at lunch – middle schoolers it’s zero use) and it’s been a massive improvement for student engagement. He banned phones before, but it’s easier to enforce now when schoolwide.
@rhett_carlson I’m not entirely sure how it works, but I think Duluth’s casino was the city giving land to the tribe and in return getting a revenue sharing agreement (that the tribe later stopped paying and a court found wasn’t legal). Tribal land seems to be property tax exempt.
@rhett_carlson Duluth’s downtown casino has been a blight on Superior Street for forever and often attracts unsavory behavior nearby. It also removes even more property from city tax rolls! St. Paul allowing a downtown casino is a city admitting defeat.
