Africa’s clean energy transition presents more than an environmental opportunity, it is an economic one. Beyond solar panel assembly, the solar PV value chain offers significant opportunities for local SMEs in installation, maintenance, accessories, recycling, technical services, and more.
As solar energy expands, the focus must also be on creating decent jobs, building local capacity, and ensuring Ghana captures greater value from the renewable energy economy.

The conversations are about to get more intense.
The ideas, bolder.
The urgency, clearer than ever.
As Africa pushes toward industrial transformation, one question remains central: How do we build energy systems that drive value addition, strengthen competitiveness, and power sustainable growth?
At FEC 2026 happening on 25-26 August, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, investors, and young change makers will come together to shape the future of Africa’s energy and industrial agenda.
The countdown begins.

Eid ul Adha Mubarak to all our Muslim brothers and sisters.
May this sacred occasion inspire peace, compassion, sacrifice, and gratitude in our homes, communities, and nations. As we celebrate the spirit of faith and giving, may we continue to uphold the values of unity, kindness, and service to humanity.
Wishing you and your loved ones joy, blessings, and a peaceful celebration.
At the closing ceremony, ACEP’s Executive Director, Mr. @benboakye , noted that the global energy transition is no longer only about climate action, but increasingly about who controls the industries, critical minerals, technologies, and power systems of the future.
For Africa, this means climate conversations must also reflect the economic and geopolitical realities shaping the global energy transition, while positioning the continent to secure greater value and influence within the emerging energy order.
Beyond the sessions, the Academy continues to build a growing network of African climate leaders committed to driving accountability, influencing policy, and shaping a climate-resilient future for the continent.
This year’s Africa Climate Academy brought together 50 participants from over 20 African countries, creating a vibrant space for learning, collaboration, and reflection on the climate challenges shaping our continent.
From law, media, civil society, government, academia, finance, and grassroots advocacy, the diversity of voices reinforced one key message: climate change is not a distant issue. It affects every sector of African life — from food systems and public health to governance, energy, and economic resilience.
As Africa marks 63 years of unity, integration, and development, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing transparency, accountability, and sustainable resource governance for a prosperous and resilient continent.
Happy AU Day from all of us at ACEP.

Over the past few days at the Africa Climate Academy, participants have engaged in insightful discussions on methane management and ESG integration in Africa’s climate discourse.
Conversations examined methane emissions across the agriculture, waste, and energy sectors, with particular attention to the oil and gas industry, where participants explored key methane detection and abatement measures. Discussions also highlighted the urgent need for stronger Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) frameworks across Africa to support effective regulation and accountability.
Sessions further explored the importance of embedding ESG frameworks into climate action, reinforcing that climate change is not an abstract issue, but one deeply connected to health, livelihoods, governance, and economic resilience.
The Academy continues to emphasise African-led solutions, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing in shaping a just and sustainable climate future for the continent.
We are grateful to our facilitators Ebenezer Asumang, Nader Khalifa, and Dr. Charles G. Ofori.

Day 1 at the Africa Climate Academy reminded us that climate change is not only a scientific issue. It is political, economic, developmental, and a governance issue.
From climate science and Africa’s climate hotspots to adaptation, mitigation, energy transition, global governance, and system change, the conversations were timely and necessary.
One message stood out clearly: climate change is no longer a future threat; it is already here.
Africa’s climate future will depend on:
• Climate-informed planning
• Stronger institutions
• Resilient infrastructure
• Better financing systems
• Integrated governance
• Inclusive decision-making
The conversation continues...

“Climate change is no longer a distant conversation for Africa; it is a reality we are already living" Dr. Ishmael Ackah (Technical Advisor to Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and former Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission) challenged participants at this year’s Africa Climate Academy to rethink Africa’s role in global climate discussions.
He noted that for too long, Africa’s engagement has centred on attending COP negotiations and seeking funding, without enough focus on how the continent can shape its own future. He urged Africa to leverage its critical minerals, pension funds, human capital, research, data, and emerging technologies like AI to drive resilience, electrification, and sustainable development.
He reiterated that climate change presents challenges, but it also offers Africa an opportunity to lead through innovation, stronger collaboration, and bold policy choices.

Under the auspices of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), the Africa Climate Academy begins in Accra from 18–22 May 2026.
The one-week programme brings together policymakers, media professionals, state actors, legal practitioners, civil society, and academia to deepen dialogue on climate change, energy transition, and Africa’s development priorities.
Key focus areas include climate risks and Africa’s vulnerabilities, climate negotiations, energy transition governance, methane and super pollutants, climate finance, and a field visit to Safisana, a waste-to-energy firm.
Together, we are shaping critical conversations on Africa’s climate future.

Our Policy Lead for Climate Change and Energy Transition, Dr. Charles G. Ofori, engaged final-year students of the Department of Geography, @UnivofGh , Legon, in an insightful session on the evolving energy transition landscape.
The lecture explored key aspects of the global energy transition, including renewable energy, decarbonisation pathways, and Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), highlighting their relevance to sustainable development and climate action.
A major focus of the engagement was equipping students with the knowledge and perspectives needed to position themselves for emerging opportunities within the energy transition space, particularly within their areas of expertise.
At ACEP, we remain committed to fostering informed conversations and preparing the next generation to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s energy future.
