I am delighted to share our recent article published in European Urology (Journal Impact Factor: 29) @EUplatinum - “Hereditary Renal Cancer Syndromes: Redefining Clinical Management in the Era of Precision Medicine” (PMID: 42580957), written by Dr. Fanni Santa, @FV_Santa an arising star in our field.
Hereditary renal cancers account for an estimated 3–5% of renal cell carcinomas, yet many affected patients remain unrecognized and never undergo germline testing. Our article highlights the growing importance of identifying hereditary disease and emphasizes that surveillance and treatment should increasingly be guided by tumor biology, molecular classification, and genetic testing.
The therapeutic landscape is rapidly evolving. HIF-2α inhibition has established proof of principle for genotype-directed therapy in VHL-associated RCC, while emerging strategies include next-generation HIF inhibition, immunotherapy-based combinations, metabolism-directed therapies for FH- and SDH-deficient RCC, and biomarker-driven approaches to improve risk stratification and treatment selection.
Important challenges remain: refining risk-adapted surveillance, optimizing intervention thresholds, developing syndrome-specific systemic therapies, and generating stronger prospective evidence. International registries integrating genotype, tumor growth, treatment history, renal function, and cancer-specific outcomes will be essential for moving the field toward more precise and dynamic management.
The future of hereditary kidney cancer care lies in integrating pathology, germline genetics, surveillance, surgery, and pathway-directed systemic therapy to deliver truly individualized precision medicine.

Mirabegron combined with solifenacin for OAB offers significant symptom improvement through pharmacological synergy, not merely independent action. Dual therapy enhances efficacy, suggesting a potent strategy for challenging cases. https://t.co/MZCT8YUEKz
Prostatic urethral lift (PUL) effectively reduces LUTS in men post-prostate irradiation. Study shows significant improvement in symptom scores and quality of life, offering a viable option for those with prior radiation therapy. https://t.co/OGGZP3uDmM @SocietyofBPD

Do positive surgical margins matter after partial nephrectomy?
1,441 pts treated over 24 years for #RCC (5.6% PSM)
🔬4-fold higher risk of local recurrence

Methenamine hippurate (MH) degrades to formaldehyde in acidic urine, impairing E. coli growth. This mechanism offers a promising adjunct therapy for UTI prevention, critical as antibiotic resistance rises. Consider MH for prophylactic strategies. https://t.co/SnMBlnYbnQ
Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD) linked to a 30% increased risk of developing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in young adults. Early identification and management of CUD may mitigate LUTS onset. Consider CUD history during patient evaluations. https://t.co/4V9TzBv7Rv @SocietyofBPD
To stent or not to stent after uncomplicated URS: this is the question @wjurol
No stent:
37–45% less pain
55–82% less analgesia
65% less dysuria
81% less urgency
57% less hematuria
Equivalent SFR, complications & readmissions

What else to go no stent?

Updated results on #OptilumeDCB for bulbar strictures from the Oslo group presented at #AUA26
- All pts >2y FU
- No loss to FU
- Sucess 55%
Interestingly, this study attracted less attention than other reports with shorter FU but more favourable results. One might wonder why.
🆕 Happy to share our review on distal urethral strictures, recently published in International Journal of Reconstructive Urology:

Y a quienes aún dudáis… #HazUro 😉
