Utah's gas prices just jumped $0.19 in a single week. Do you know why? 🤨
Stop guessing and start tracking. I’m sharing clear data and economic insights for the curious driver in the latest CrudeIQ newsletter. #OOTT#oilprices

Elder Gordon B. Hinckley, then a member of the Quorum of the 12, some years ago called my father to be a Stake President. That Sunday, in between some stake meetings, Elder Hinckley and my father were walking down a hallway in the stake center. Elder Hinckley had his arm looped around my father’s arm.
Suddenly, my father said he was jerked to the left as Elder Hinckley pulled him into the men’s restroom. President, (it helps if you imagine President Hinckley’s wonderful voice here 😄), “President, I’m going to give you some advice and counsel that has served me well over the years. You will now be spending a lot of time in meetings. Those meetings can be very long. Sometimes during those meetings you will have wished you had visited a restroom before the meeting began. Here is my counsel. Never walk by a restroom even if you don’t feel the urge. At some point you will be glad you made the stop.”
Pretty wise counsel from President Hinckley. I, myself have tried to follow that counsel. He wasn’t wrong. 😃 I loved President Hinckley.
Who doesn't love a good crude oil conspiracy theory?
Oil on water has been growing like crazy over the past few months, based on many factors like the increasing costs to hire supertankers (below), all while storage on land has slowly been declining. There is room to offload the oil, but they aren't doing that.
What if... A bunch of traders decided to build up their inventory of oil in supertankers, then, pay off a certain world super power to start a war with a middle eastern country that controls the Strait of Hormuz, which will cause crude prices to skyrocket, and right when prices get crazy high, they all start unloading their supertankers to cash in on the higher prices?
Sounds crazy, right? I guess we'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
If I'm right, we'll see:
1) Crude prices jump
2) Oil on water decline (reported levels will drop, supertanker prices will come down, etc)
3) On shore inventories will start going up at faster than normal
4) Gasoline prices won't rise as quickly as oil prices as the refineries won't feel the pinch from a lack of supply
5) Depending on the length of the middle east conflict, oil supply might get tight only after the oil on water surplus has been brought down.

In economics, Demand exists when there are people who are both ABLE and WILLING to make the transactions. So, is demand for housing low because people are UNABLE or UNWILLING to purchase a home?
I think we all know the answer.

I'm not much of an advice giver, but if you want to develop an ability that will give you an advantage in the future develop your contemplation skills. Learn to be alone and just THINK. Be bored. Make your brain do things it need not do when you feed it stimulation constantly.
A 6 cent drop is a start, but the real story in H.B. 575 is the long game: better data and faster infrastructure permitting. It’s about building a more resilient supply chain, not just a quick win at the pump. #oott#gasprices#utahenergy
Oil prices are doing exactly what logic says they shouldn’t.
U.S. stockpiles just jumped by 8.5M barrels, a massive supply "win" for drivers. But geopolitical friction with Iran is keeping the "fear premium" alive, keeping prices up despite the extra supply.
Data vs. Drama. #OOTT #drama #gasprices #utahenergy #crudeiq
