Miyazaki has spoken about the concept of βma,β the silent pauses in stories where characters simply exist. Thatβs Tom Bombadil. Not every moment in a story needs to advance the narrative. Itβs this time spent with the world and its characters that makes the book transcendent.
@SandyofCthulhu I always considered him as metaphor to represent the goofy jovial part of God. He's all powerful and also doesn't even think much about his power. He just IS. He also conveys the point that God is not going to step in and save them, they must commit to action and save themselves.
@SandyofCthulhu Maybe Bombadil was Tolkien's way of metaphorically inserting God into the story. Yeah, there's an Entity who can easily smash Sauron, and he'll help you on your way, but he wants you to make the effort.
If you believe free speech is for you but not your political opponents, you're illiberal.
If no contrary evidence could change your beliefs, you're a fundamentalist.
If you believe the state should punish those with contrary views, you're a totalitarian.
If you believe political opponents should be punished with violence or death, you're a terrorist.
@lecanardnoir Lol opponents of the "care" might use the study as a "weapon" to stop the "care" which entails using damaging drugs that don't help and removing healthy body parts.. better not publish! it's for the kids!!
