On this day July 12,1916, my grandfather Major. A. W. L. Trotter died during the Battle of the Somme. Shot in the head by a German sniper. He was a member of the Leiestershire Regiment,10 battalion,1 acoy company. A Fighting Tiger. My father was not 4 yet.
