👋 Hello world! We’ve been off Twitter for a bit so we wanted to reintroduce ourselves. We’re Act Indiana, a movement of faith & community leaders organizing to build a new politics where people are prioritized over the rich. Seems simple, right? But it’s not the case in Indiana.
This is great news and it started with all of us joining together to fight for a new vision for managing mental health crisis and addiction response across the state. https://t.co/VDVoxvCYWu
Our hearts are heavy at the loss of a true hero. Jay Caponigro led with heart, passion, and care. A founder of our St. Joe chapter and board member - his legacy will live in all of us he touched with his works. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
Big news and a huge win! Indianapolis announced yesterday that they will begin their Clinician-Led Community Response program this summer. We’re excited to support this program as it launches and what it will mean for mental health crisis response.
Our slate of #WeMakeIndiana leaders ran for city council in 4 of the largest cities on a shared vision: we can build safe and caring communities for all of us. They all won their primaries! Join us in celebrating their commitment to working for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
Even though Republicans significantly shortchanged the needs of our state for mental health crisis response, we are making progress. We’re building power all across Indiana. And we will show them that we won’t rest until they answer the call for care.
A huge coalition joined the Call For Care: Mental Health of America IN, IN Council of Mental Health Centers, IN Sheriffs Association, and AARP as well as nearly 100 hundred local businesses, big and small, who have called for fully funded mental health crisis response programs.
In case you missed it, people all across the state are stepping up and demanding full funding for mental health crisis response. https://t.co/8XXv6MGL9k
Earlier this week, the Black Church Coalition demanded a DoJ investigation into IMPD and some accountability for the officers who killed Herman Whitfield III. Today, prosecutors announced charges for two of the officers involved.

At our recent visit to the Capitol, Pastor Victoria Handy laid out the problem and the solution for mental health crisis response: full funding for a number to call, a person to come, and a place to go.
