Equity is alive and well at the LAT! The Div Court has ruled that relief from forfeiture may be granted by the LAT to resolve insurance disputes. See Botbyl v. Heartland Farm Mutual Inc., 2025 ONSC 3349:

It baffles me that the LAT will only grant 3 days for a hearing on CAT impairment for a minor with $935,000.00 in potential benefits at stake, yet the Courts will grant weeks for a trial for a lot less being claimed. How is this fair access to justice?
I had an excellent discussion yesterday with the Canadian Forum for Civil Justice on the access to justice issues at the Licence Appeal Board. Hopefully this will lead to much-needed changes.
I'm very honoured to be invited to sit as a participant on a roundtable discussion on Access to Justice Through the Tribunal System with the Canadian Forum for Civil Justice where I'll be sharing my first-hand experience with the LAT.
Trials are not for the faint of heart. We have a proven track record of success. We are proud of our team’s efforts in the Pye v Di Trapani trial in Hamilton where a jury awarded our client over $1.1 million & Justice Skarica has ordered the Defendant to pay~$1.1 million in costs
Liberal MPP’s bill aims to ‘depoliticize’ and clear backlog from Ontario’s tribunal system. Bill would create non-partisan body with investigative, monitoring, reporting, and approval powers.

I fully support this. It's time to ensure that tribunals are non-partisan and clear up the immense backlog of cases. If @fordnation is "for the people" then he should want to ensure fair and timely justice for people.
Contrary to what @douglasdowney says, everything is not rosy for our tribunals.
Ontarians are paying for access to fair justice, not adjudicators with blue-tinted glasses.

The LAT is only allowing us 3 days for an oral hearing on CAT for a minor with 8 witnesses, despite both parties asking for 5 days at a minimum. How can this be considered effective access to justice?

Our lobbying efforts seem to have paid off. There are several pieces of good news for us in Ontario’s budget.

“While consumer choice sounds attractive, when it comes to auto insurance, it means less protection for drivers in the long run. The end result is usually higher profits for insurance companies and less coverage for consumers.” Read the full story here - https://t.co/DQiaAtGMJM
ON budget 2024: Having auto insurance pay first for med/rehab benefits is new. Will definitely mean less "red tape" for injured insureds and their treatment providers
