married to @kevin_bensema. Catholic convert. Alaskan. Chemist. Have a white esky mix named Koda (12yr), 3 girls (8yr, 7yr, & 2yr), and 2 boys (3yr & newborn)
@Reversion0815 And for those in the multiple-babes-under-2 trenches now, the other half of this advice (from both my grandmother and myself), it does get easier. The hard days get fewer, and there is a sudden realization that you have a solid handle on it and life is better than imagined.
@Reversion0815 Our first 2 were 16.5 months apart; I called my grandma (who had had 3 under 2) to ask for tips. I asked her how she did it, and she said, “honestly? One day at a time. There will be hard days and not so hard days.” It was both the best and the least specific advice I got.
@A_living_stem When my 1yo daughter first requested to bless herself at the stoup, she dipped her finger in the Holy Water, immediately sucked her wet finger, then open palm slapped her own forehead, and looked at me so proud of herself.
@CatholicAwesome I once went with my aunt to watch her friends’ son’s HS wrestling match. Afterwards, the ~15yo kid was trying to flirt with me as the 4 of us were chatting, his dad (who I had met as a young girl) asked me how old I was now. When I answered “21”, son blurts out “21?!? HOLY COW!”
@lovinglyprolife Decades ago, my mom had to make a professional call, but got the answering machine. Answering machine anxiety set in, but she left a very professional message that she then confidently ended with “in Jesus’ Name, Amen” and hung up before realizing what she said.
@Ruesavatar As a preteen, I was into wilderness survival books and stories. I also thought that sleeping in close process to a man could get a woman pregnant, so I was carefully making contingency plans for if I found myself in such a situation with a mixed group of survivors and one tent.
@luinalaska My mom planned on “Nanny Peg” for her grandma name. My eldest (the first grandchild) had a severe speech impediment and couldn’t pronounce “n”s for a long time, so my mom was “Baggy Peg” for 2 years. She missed it a bit when babe grew out of it.
@MomKrill@iWomansplainer Same. I was generally unimpressed with the lactation cookies/recipes, but oatmeal seemed to actually help. Also, there was an oat milk/coconut water drink that I would make from a friend’s recommendation, and the results were significant for my supply.
@allie__voss My car’s radiator blew the day before the wedding, so it was a scramble to get all visiting family to the Church for the wedding, and then back again.
Also, I could not find where I put my Bridal Bible from my grandmother that I had planned to walk down the aisle holding.
@twinkletoesY2K I was correcting my daughter’s schoolwork. On one page had two wildly different handwritings. When asked if her sister had done some of the page for her, she explained that “sometimes my hand gets tired of writing so I use my other hand for a while”, and she demonstrated. 😳
@theblessedsalt@CatholicAwesome As we were being discharged after I had our 3rd (c-section), the nurse gave the “no sex for minimum of 6 weeks post surgery” spiel. When hubby left to take bags to the car, she pointedly asked me if she needed to drill that into my husband when he came back. Floored me as a wife.
@selentelechia When I was ~13, I was helping my mom check out at the commissary. A Coke can bounced off the belt after the cashier scanned it, proceeded to comically ping pong down to the floor, puncture the side of the can, and become an oscillating sprinkler. 🤣 The whole aisle was sticky.
@Reversion0815@selentelechia My first managed to get her foot stuck between two of my ribs, and I had to gently turn her foot and pop it back inside my ribcage. Painful for me, but also entirely weird to manipulate a teeny foot inside my body, from the outside of my body.
@vivanellope When I had braces, it was either pull teeth to improve bite, or use a Rick-a-nator. We opted for the temporary jaw screw. I appreciate not losing teeth, but it’s a frying pan/fire decision. 😬
@Dirtdragonmom My 3yo son is currently in a phase of requesting short sleeve button up shirts with the front pocket. He refers to that type of shirt as his “candy shirts”. According to him, that breast pocket is for candy, particularly jelly beans.
@ctdonath@selentelechia I did the same with my kids when they started showing interest in “Mama’s drink” around 2yo. First kid “ewwww, dat’s yucky, why you drink bean water”. So I was confident in the technique. Second kid, same strong black coffee, “ooooh, dat’s gooood”.
@MrsCathComedy One Costco run with all 4 kids, only got 3 things: monster pack of hamburger, prosciutto, and a pre-prepared chicken dish I think. Check out guy sees my purchases on the scale, off-hand comments “wow, lotta meat”, looks at my basket of kids, and adds “ah” with a smile.
@homemakinghunny@sadbadmom My youngest of 4 spit up a lot, including through her nose, and it turned out she had a me-eating-dairy sensitivity. The way we figured that out is that she had really stinky gas. Apparently, infant gas shouldn’t reek, and if it does that indicates a food sensitivity.
