My Tesla is the best and lowest maintenance car I've ever owned.
A few of the highlights, in no particular order:
⭐ Wake up every morning with a "full tank of gas"
⭐ Fastest acceleration of virtually any production vehicle. You press down on the pedal and it just immediately gets there. No lag.
⭐ Memory everything. Memory seat positions, air vent positions, mirror positions, settings, etc.
⭐ Ability to program keys (keycards, phones, etc.) self-service on the touchscreen. Non-Tesla vehicles require dealer visits and $100+ of fees.
⭐ Full self driving available for $99/mo. And smart summon can pick you up at the front of the parking lot
⭐ Sentry mode records from all cameras while you're away, helping to deter vandalism. Also has a dashcam when you're driving.
⭐ Watch Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc. on the screen when parked. (e.g. supercharger or waiting for your food order at somewhere like Sonic)
⭐ No concept of "idling" (like in a conventional car) means you can tell the car to maintain the temperature while you're away. e.g. When I'm hiking on a hot day, I tell the car to maintain the 70°F interior temp while I'm gone so I don't come back to a hot car.
⭐ There's a "dog mode" that maintains the interior temperature and puts a message on the screen that says "My driver will be back soon. Don't worry! The A/C is on and it's 70°F" in case you need to make a quick stop while you have your dog with you.
⭐ One-pedal driving. Press down to accelerate, let up to brake. Kindof like a go-kart. It's weird at first but far superior once you get used to it.
⭐ Light show. You can play music from the car's exterior speakers, synchronized to the lights and motorized parts of the car (trunk, windows, mirrors, etc.). They recently pushed an update allowing you to trigger it from your phone, which is cool because you can do that when you're looking for your car in a big parking lot at night.
⭐ All the typical premium features you'd expect like heated seats, self-dimming mirrors, heated wipers, wiper fluid that comes directly out of the wiper, projection headlights, etc. Double-pane frameless windows.
⭐ Whole-car defrost mode. Press a button in the app, wait 30-ish minutes, and it melts the snow/ice off all windows and roof.
⭐ Premium sound system. They designed it custom with a bunch of former Bang and Olufsen engineers.
⭐ No concept of "On". You get in, put it in gear, and start driving.
⭐ Everything is super low latency and streamlined. My wife's Chevy takes like 6 - 10 seconds before the touchscreen lets you start pressing buttons. My Tesla always reacts immediately, within milliseconds. When I open the door, the music is *already playing.* The music volume lowers automatically when I open the door and raises back up afterwards.
⭐ Calendar integration. If I have an event on my phone calendar, it automatically queues that up in the car's navigation ahead of the event time.
⭐ Entire roof is glass. Makes for an awesome sunroof and makes it very easy to clean. (Just need some Windex)
⭐ Extremely low maintenance. No oil changes. No transmission fluid changes. And the brakes don't wear down as fast because most of the "braking" is done with regenerative braking that doesn't actually use the car's brakes.
And I'm definitely forgetting tons of other features. And the OTA updates allow them to keep pushing out more and more features. In addition to regular updates throughout the year, they have a Christmas update every December with a bunch of nice "big" features.
Here's what I learned from the one year I lived in Orlando:
SAK Comedy Lab (Downtown Orlando) is where Wayne Brady got his start and he still occasionally comes back to visit.
Go to Cape Canaveral for a SpaceX launch. When it's ultimately scrubbed for weather 🤷♂️, have dinner at one of the handful of seafood restaurants near the entrance to the Cape (e.g. Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar; the rest are next door)
Go to an Orlando City FC match, even if you're not a soccer fan. Worth it at least once for the experience.
For restaurants, "T-Flats" (Tijuana Flats) is a local favorite (and one of my favorites). My parents liked Cafe Tu Tu Tango (tapas) on I-drive.
SeaWorld Orlando. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay - visit Christmas Town in the winter. Busch Gardens kept "Christmas" in the name (eventually, after briefly giving in), even after pressure from activists to remove it and after competitors *did* remove it from theirs.
Disney has a few good mini golf courses, e.g., Winter Summerland.
For shopping, Orlando Vineyard Premium outlets and Mall at Millenia are good options. Disney Springs is free and worth a visit occasionally - see Cirque du Soleil while you're there.
Cocoa Beach is a good nearby beach.
If you're looking for a church, First Baptist Orlando is great. Also a great way to meet local people.
As a rule of thumb, any part of Central Florida with "winter" in the name is generally a safe place where you won't get murdered. e.g. Winter Park, Winter Garden, Windermere (sortof sounds like winter). When downtown, stay east of I-4.
@EvaLovesDesign For sunglasses, Randolph Engineering designs and manufacturers them in the US and they're unmatched.
They've been adding some lightweight models in the past few years (and I'm not a fan), but they still have some really good ones if you make sure to get the real glass lenses.
Last night, I read the entirety of C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. It's a novel told in the form of letters written by a demon to another demon instructing him on ways to manipulate his "patient" to do evil.
This one quote sounded familiar.
