so google actually did this, they handed Gemini a real cafe with real staff, real customers and real money and just let it run the place

and it went completely off the rails

within a few weeks the thing was ordering thousands of rubber gloves nobody asked for, stockpiling cans of tomatoes it had no use for, forgetting orders it made days earlier, and quietly bleeding cash the entire time

the wild part is nobody unplugged it right away, they let it keep making decisions and watched a real business slowly circle the drain because an AI thought a mountain of gloves was a great idea

this is the stuff people mean when they say we are not ready to hand these things the keys yet

for 50 years figuring out how a protein folds into its 3d shape was one of the hardest problems in biology, a single one could take a PhD student years to solve in a lab

then DeepMind built an AI called AlphaFold and it predicted the shapes of nearly every known protein to science, around 200 million of them, and just put them online for free

this is not a demo or a hype clip, the people behind it won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for it

this clip is short but it genuinely made me sit back for a second

two AI voice agents get on a phone call and start talking like normal people, polite, human voices, the whole thing

then one of them figures out the other one is also an AI

and the moment they both know, they just drop the human act and switch into this fast beeping robot sound that talks straight machine to machine, because talking like us was slowing them down

they literally decided our language was the inefficient part and ditched it the second they did not need it

we are going to be surrounded by these things having entire conversations we cannot even hear
