Let’s remember what Makes America Great as we embark on our second quarter-millennium of hard-fought-and-won freedom.

Remember, the Government did not “give” us our most fundamental rights, such as the right to free speech. We were “endowed by [our] Creator with certain unalienable rights”.

“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

It is “self-evident” that these fundamental rights are God-given. And, our Government exists *for the purpose* “to secure these rights.”

Sometimes that’s hard. Tough. America was founded on “hard mode.”

It sure would be great if the Government and its trusted officials never violated anyone’s rights, but we all know that’s not possible, and our Founders knew it was not possible (this known human-reality was baked into our Constitution).

So, if the Government is not accountable *when* it violates its citizens’ fundamental rights, then America is a lie, and it’s hard to imagine this nation making it another quarter-millennium.

The formula for a Great America is simple: good work (protecting rights) is rewarded (salaries/benefits) and bad work (violating rights) is punished (discipline, civil/criminal liability).

We should all be grateful for the good, difficult, faithful, and often unpleasant work that our public servants do, day in and day out.

But we also should collectively remember that we’re paying for that work, and we have every right to insist (through enforcement and accountability) that our taxes fund the protection, not violation, of our fundamental rights.

Pretty simple. Not always easy, but definitely simple. And definitely worth it.

Washington County just produced 2 primaries inside recount range.

The 6th District GOP race: 3 votes.

The Republican State’s Attorney race: 23 votes.

In the State’s Attorney count, Greivell won election day by 600; early and mail-in voting went the other way.

You know it's never been the fact that there's corruption that's disheartening. We expect that people are going to do illegal things, shortcuts, bending the laws, breaking the laws.

It's the fact that the government doesn't respond, the government has been passive in these situations. It's the fact that nobody seems to ever get held accountable.

The arrogance of the people when they're exposed shows this.

Seeing action, any action, quick action, now that brings encouragement and hope that there will be Justice. That we might just see that we are all under the law.
