Silicon Valley’s economic model leads directly to this. It’s a sickness of greed and hubris. When that’s “just” about addicting you to the next social media phenomenon, that’s bad enough. When it’s literally the life and death of medicine? Fucking hell.
It is with great sadness that I share news of Joe Armstrong's passing away earlier today. Whilst he may no longer be with us, his work has laid the foundation which will be used by generations to come. RIP @joeerl, thank you for inspiring us all.

@imathis Yeah, for me it’s more about trying to find the appropriate hammer to bring down on them that also helps to prevent further abuses on that scale. I personally don’t know all the available mechanisms for this so if breakup isn’t the best method, NBD.
@imathis Not sure what specifically separating those three services would actually accomplish: I’d probably rather have a split that said social network companies cannot also be ad companies. Something that drives at the core of their mixed up incentives.
@imathis For me it’s more about trying to find a remedy for the current problem. They’re a company that has consistently shown no respect for ethics related to privacy, and there is no incentive for them to start respecting it. They’re making record profits while behaving badly.

Nothing about MLK's name makes it a common mistake to insert a racial slur in the middle. This only happens if you are used to saying it that way or hanging with people who do - St. Louis newscaster apologizes for inserting slur into MLK's name on air https://t.co/JPxggaDYJv
2019 marks the 400th year since enslaved Africans were brought here, before this was even a country. Black people have only had any semblance of full citizenship for about 50 yrs. I don't think the public always grasps the enormity of state-sanctioned oppression on that timeline.
CBN is hiring! Our current team of 3 needs an enthusiastic, self-starting team member to help further our community building work by providing support with program coordination, project management, & communication. Learn more here! https://t.co/ygHw8ijmlS
