Empowering Women. Strengthening Peace. 💪🏾✨
On April 29th in Kilifi County, 31 women from Kenya’s security and justice sectors came together for a mentorship reflection session under the #MwanamkeImara Program.
Through interactive activities and open discussions, participants shared powerful stories of growth, moving from silence to influence, stepping into leadership roles, and actively contributing to preventing violent extremism.
Key highlights:
✔️ Increased confidence and leadership
✔️ Women influencing decisions in their institutions
✔️ Strong mentor-mentee support networks
✔️ Real action in communities to promote peace
Despite unexpected changes, the session became a powerful, participant-led space, proving that when women are empowered, real change happens.

This week, with support from @CanHCKenya, @SFCG_Kenya in partnership with @NCTC_Kenya & @YOWPSUD_ is convening a specialized PCVE training in Kwale County for State security agencies, justice institutions, and CSOs. The training is bringing together key stakeholders under one roof to strengthen coordination and build collective approaches to preventing and countering violent extremism.
The importance of this engagement is clear. In past experiences within Kwale and across the Coast, gaps in early warning and early response systems have limited timely action, often leaving communities exposed to radicalization and violence. This training is addressing those gaps by promoting collaboration, enhancing information sharing, and equipping participants with practical tools to detect risks early and respond in a coordinated manner.
By investing in this joint capacity building, Kwale County is taking an important step toward creating safer and more resilient communities. The strengthened partnerships between security, justice institutions, and civil society will not only improve prevention strategies but also ensure that youth, women, and vulnerable groups are better protected from the drivers of violent extremism. 🌍✨
This week, YOWPSUD had the privilege of participating in a Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) organized by @sfcg_kenya and supported by @CanHCKenya. The training brought together #MwanamkeImara partner organizations working in dynamic and sometimes high-risk environments, equipping them with essential skills to anticipate, prevent, and respond effectively to safety and security challenges.
The HEAT training covered practical modules on personal safety, situational awareness, first aid, conflict navigation, and emergency response protocols. For YOWPSUD, this knowledge is not just important, it is vital. Working in community spaces often involves navigating unpredictable circumstances, from security incidents to health emergencies. Having the right skills and preparedness can make the difference between a safe outcome and a crisis.
Health, safety, and security trainings are a cornerstone of sustainable community engagement. They empower teams to operate confidently, minimize risks, and protect not only themselves but also the communities they serve. By investing in such capacity building, we strengthen our ability to deliver our mission while safeguarding the well-being of our staff, partners, and beneficiaries.
YOWPSUD remains committed to integrating these best practices into our daily operations, ensuring that our interventions are carried out in safe, informed, and responsible ways
The Centre had the honor to participate in a stakeholders meeting organised by @SFCG_Kenya in partnership with @YOWPSUD_ and @actionlife_Ke with support by @CanHCKenya to explore strategies in enhancing women leadership in #PCVE within security and criminal justice sectors in the Coastal region of #Kenya.
