@azeemattare@AcademicChatter It's so discouraging too because it's not always possible to publish multiple papers but then I can't get into my dream uni for a postdoc because I don't have 2-3 pubs ๐
@angryhacademic Yes I definitely feel that sense of community if I'm supporting a specific cause! I guess maybe I should just ask science Twitter for tips to improve my time management skills then ๐
How do you manage your time between your research and being involved with different associations or activism life? I want to contribute and participate in so many things but my PhD life takes up all my time somehow.

@BeccaismsDC @AcademicChatter I'll try and think about it that way, I'm in cancer research so while I could try a social justice lense, the focus is so much on biology and biology itself is so overwhelmingly complex that I already feel like I'm drowning and can't even get time to think about other things ๐ญ
@jackrapppoport @AcademicChatter Damn I really wasn't expecting someone to say this usually it's like do a millions things or else your CV will look dull. Thanks!
Can y'all IMAGINE the blood shed if this was a group of poc attacking the White House? The police wouldn't be tiptoeing around them. They wouldn't be called "agitators" or "rioters". The MAGA mob involved in this are TERRORISTS. Report it as such.
I need to sort out my lab book DESPERATELY but that might mean a few days of zero "work". The guilt of not working is preventing me from sorting out my lab book which in turn is stressing me out. How do I stop this viscious cycle??? #AcademicChatter
How many of you dreamed of taking a telescope, travel to rural areas and show the beauty of night sky and celestial objects to the kids there? @AcademicChatter
Funny how all throughout school and uni we're encouraged/even pushed to do extracurricular activities and have hobbies outside work and then you get to grad school and it's like your life and all your time belongs to your project.

@MachloviSaima @AcademicChatter It's completely healthy to challenge the notion of free labor and say "my time is valuable."
Plus, having extra hours to work without compensation is a privilege. Ex. Some people have more financial responsibilities and don't have the bandwidth for free labor.
My previous PI used to come in at 7am and leave at 5pm (bc he had to pick up his kids) and he would encourage all the other PhD students in his lab to follow this schedule. I've never seen a more cheery group of researchers honestly. I wish I'd stuck to that routine in my new lab
Dear PIs, please take your new undergrads/masters students/PhDs through a data management plan and let them know that keeping detailed records of their work is JUST as important as the actual work. A lab book should be updated within the working day in the lab
