@AussieWirraway If you consider drakes as a supermarket chain, then I believe it may well be Ardrossan in South Australia. If you are looking for a major chain however, Clare South Australia has a Woolworths and a population of 3160 people.
@ILM126 I think the reality is that port Adelaide is still very heavy industry. There are a number of larger active factories right in the town center and the west of port road is fairly blighted. The north west of port Adelaide seems to do alright however.
@ILM126 Port Adelaide is pretty dead on Sundays lol. Only the pubs, cafes and pokies really are open. There was a huge open day yesterday for port dock line.
@FlixPat@the_transit_guy you mean like the 9 rail lines that serve suburban Sydney? The 4 tram lines that serve urban cores within Sydney or the 4+ long distance lines that serve outlying towns and suburbs? Idk man, sounds like a lot more than just 1 line.
@TrueBelievers15@ILM126 it wasnt an added feature in this instance, the second platform seems to have been considered from the getgo in 2017, subsequent renders just failed to include it.
@AussieWirraway@hot_rails I thought the same a bout riverlea yet here we are. The reality is that people are weird little creatures that do some pretty funny stuff.
@kaptrice @ChittiMarco Adelaides rail and tram system were built to American standards and used American inspired rolling stock and procedures yet it's systems exist today and are modern and functional so either Adelaide is an outlier or there's a different root cause 2/2
@kaptrice @ChittiMarco By this metric Adelaide should look like an American city then. Adelaide was dominated by trams until the 1950s with often very American inspired vehicles. Adelaides railway system was rebuilt and managed by an American to an American standard in the 1930s. 1/
@NickIBIS@not_fake_jack Well the grange line isn't awful, it's not our best but there's definitely worse out there. can't really say much though, I mostly commute on Flinders branch.
@schotanus@urban_reverie @ChittiMarco Adelaides network was only privatised in 2018 and that is being reverted in the coming years. The only state to have consistent private operation of suburban services is the state of victoria. Government run and managed railways where and are the norm in Australia.
@schotanus@urban_reverie @ChittiMarco Just using Adelaide as an example briefly. From the 1880s onwards suburban rail in Adelaide was managed by the state, maintained by the state, staffed by the state and policies by the state. There was no tendering of operations, just various boards and comittees.
@ChittiMarco South Australia actually is a huge outlier in Australia and much of its rail system is built to American standards. In the 1930s the railways went under considerable reform and where model after US systems as the railway commissioner at the time was an American.
