Here is the maths:

The house: newer 2-storey detached, single garage. Kitchener-area detached homes averaged ~$867K in Feb 2026. Narrow lot and one garage put this a bit below: ~$800K.

2/ Two full-time min-wage earners in Ontario: ~$74.7K/yr.
$800K home: $55K minimum down payment, ~$5,200/mo (mortgage, tax, heat). That’s 83% of their gross pay.
The stress test requires ~$188K household income to qualify.

3/ Even at $700K, they’d still need ~$165K to qualify. The math isn’t close.

4/Move it down further to 600K, well below market for this house, they’d need ~$143K to qualify. They earn about half that.

Compare countries. Call out the government. But do it with facts, not embellishments.
