The proposed deforestation under the Great Nicobar Island project poses a serious crisis not only for Indigenous communities but also for the entire island's biodiversity. The ecosystem of this region is extremely sensitive, and the flora and fauna are integral to the island's unique cultural and ecological heritage. The livelihoods of Indigenous communities, which depend on these forests, are at risk, and their traditional way of life will also be adversely affected. Development should not solely focus on economic benefits; we must adopt a sustainable development approach that prioritizes environmental protection and the interests of local communities. Therefore, it is essential to reconsider this deforestation initiative to safeguard not only biodiversity but also the rights and culture of Indigenous communities.

On September 1, #Manipur and then the rest of the country, woke up to the news that shocked thousands of people: Manipur was now witnessing #droneattacks. Although the use of drones is not new in the Manipur crisis, so far, drones were only used for surveillance. However, the recent attack in #Imphal West has changed the dynamics of the conflict, showing how easily violence can escalate.

@manipur_police have attributed the attack to #Kuki militants and the CM has called it an act of #terrorism. Meanwhile, the Central Government has responded by forming a committee to investigate the use of explosive-carrying drones. The Centre has also approved the use of #antidrone guns in the state.
