i was incredibly disheartened to see the remarkable ease with which the scale, complexity and human cost of nrc-caa protests were forgotten or flattened into convenient political narratives, the way people spoke about it as if they were marginal or insignificant (1/n)
There isn't a single video of Umar Khalid or Sharjeel Imam that I can watch without crying. I'm so angry at the system and at how we failed them. Release all political prisoners. They are people just like you and me, and they, too, have been victims of this government.
The shoes protesters lost yesterday while fleeing police batons, tear gas have been collected and carefully arranged by fellow protesters they may never know.
This is true art is born on the streets. A people's movement brings out the highest forms of solidarity and creativity.
In case you are a student who would have used the metro to get to jantar mantar, you can instead book a cab/auto and get there. DM me for my UPI id and I’ll pay the cab/auto fare happily.
#DharmendraPradhanResign
queer people are the backbone of every revolution. stfu with your homophobia and transphobia! wdfym "wildcard entry at the protest" we have been protesting and fighting for our rights since years but are unheard.
always had a problem with the "it's the poor uneducated indians voting for bjp" rhetoric. bjp's biggest voting base comes from the middle and upper middle classes. the "educated" ones. these are the corporate working fathers frothing at the mouth with each whatsapp forward.
the news from protest site saying they've received more than enough food to feed 100k people and some, it's making me so happy. this is how you know how big of a protest this actually is. im so proud of my people for being there even when they actually can't be there.
One thing about trans women in delhi is that they will be there for every single protest and be the most well spoken, articulate, intelligent people there...I will always be such a simp for trans women...u inspire me
a good law of history is that if you ever find yourself opposing a student movement while siding with the ruling class, you are wrong.
every single time. in every era. no matter the issue.
every black square is a metro station that you cannot access right now. this is without any prior notice, mind you.
to all the people at the protest site today, stay safe, install google maps offline, install bitchat / briar for offline communication. carry protective gear.
umar khalid and sharjeel imam are highly educated student leaders who have been imprisoned because they were among the first ones to expose the dictatorial and corrupt character of this government
students must unite and reject communal, casteist and patriarchal politics of bjp
BJP's paid PR campaign has started.
First, NDTV interviewed the 'NEET topper' where the kid said he'd rather study than join the protest.
Now PR agencies are approaching influencers to make videos praising the govt and opposing the protest.
idc if you like cjp or sonam wangchuk, but if you still choose to believe that all of this is a propaganda which is being spread to destroy the country and make it unstable by removing bjp, then im sorry my friend but you are the exact definition of andhbhakt and brainwashed.
What's more triggering is the aftermath of the protest. The judiciary is saying not to drag them, the media is spreading false news, & institutions like IIT Roorkee are suppressing students' voices. All pillars of democracy are backing the govt, not the people of the democracy.
