In school, the whiteboard was the fun part.

Draw a circle. Wipe it. Draw it again.

Nobody told you that circle would one day require a scene graph, gesture arbitration, and hit testing.

Skia gives you a canvas, but not a whiteboard.

Draggable shapes, selection boxes, resize handles, brushes: none of that comes in the box.

You get a rendering engine and a very long weekend.

𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁-𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲-𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘃𝗮𝘀-𝗸𝗶𝘁 by Adithya Vishwanath (@adithyavis) is the missing layer. It puts a scene graph on top of React Native Skia, heavily inspired by Konva on the web, so you can build a canvas experience by composing components instead of writing gesture math.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲

➡️ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀: Rect, Circle, Ellipse, Line, RegularPolygon, Star, Text, and Image, all sharing the same transform and styling props.

➡️ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: tap and press events with hierarchy-aware hit testing and ancestor bubbling. Add `draggable` to any node, and it drags.

➡️ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿: an interactive selection box with resize and rotate handles you can attach to any node. The thing every canvas app needs and nobody wants to build.

➡️ 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀: a BrushLayer with UI-thread stroke capture and ready-made pen, pencil, marker, highlighter, tape, and eraser brushes.

➡️ 𝗨𝗜-𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀: pinch-to-scale and rotate run as worklets. No bridge round-trips mid-gesture.

The tree mirrors a classic 2D canvas hierarchy: Stage, Layer, Group, Shape. If you have used Konva on the web, you already know this API. Whiteboards, diagram editors, sticker apps, annotation tools.

At TCS, one engineer in four has a tenure of more than 10 years. TCS, a company known for its relatively high attrition rate of ~12.5%, also has a lot of lifers. Talk about bimodal distribution.

On the other end of the spectrum, meta has the least number of people sticking for long. Lesser than even amazon, the company known for popularizing PIPs. I am curious to understand if it's mostly voluntary quitting because of the culture there- especially after reading tweets from @GergelyOrosz and others that might indicate that.

Hardware pays more than Software in India.

Stock inflation is not factored in; if you include it, the premium at the L4 level can go even up to 50%.

Ten years ago at campus placements, my EE batchmates were all chasing software roles. A few did EECS/CS masters abroad specifically to get away from EE and closer to CS/ML. Qualcomm, TI, Intel were not the most prestigious companies to get your first job at, and they paid lesser.

That sentiment has shifted completely. Hardware is in fact leading Software in pay, if you compare the P90 total comp between the two.

https://t.co/jFHlnxAT4m TC counts equity at grant value. The people who joined Nvidia or Broadcom out of college a decade ago have watched their RSU grants compound into something else entirely. From personal experience, I know one guy sitting on ₹20 crores + (or $2 million) NW. Very hard for a person with a software engineering background to reach a similar milestone in the same span.
