World Mental Health Day serves as a powerful reminder that mental health is a fundamental part of our overall well-being. In a fast-paced world, this day underscores the importance of reflecting and extending compassion to others. Let us also work collectively to create environments where conversations around mental health become more mainstream. My compliments to all those working in this field and helping others heal and find happiness.
Many are turning to AI for medical advice but ignoring real doctors can cost lives. AI can inform, but it cannot replace medical expertise.
Your health is priceless. Consult your doctor, not just Google or ChatGPT.

Deterioration of the politics of a country is directly proportional to the social, moral and political deterioration of the ‘people’ of that country.

In India, everyone is considered a mental health expert except the psychiatrist.
People are ready to believe the advice of their relatives, friends and quacks about mental health.
At most, they will try out a psychologist who appears 'harmless'. They are ready to try 'talk therapy'. Even going for therapy every week for months.
'Therapy' has become acceptable due to the depiction of it in western films or series. It has become glamourised too.
But 'Talk therapy' is not enough in all cases.
When it is about physical health, people want to consult superspecialists.
But when it is about mental health, they will avoid a psychiatrist. They will approach the psychiatrist only when the case has already reached a severe stage.
We need to take mental health more seriously.
Seeking help at the right time when needed should not be a stigma.

So, this is something that happens often and never fails to amuse me.
I am introduced to someone (usually a professional), and when they ask what I do, I say that I am a psychiatrist.
They immediately become interested and start telling me why they think depression and anxiety are increasing in Indian society.
Somewhere in the middle, they realize that I'm the psychiatrist and say, 'Of course, you must already know all of this,' but then continue for another 5-10 minutes with their explanation.
I always agree with whatever is being said.
