could not be guaranteed a Kindle at the price I paid, was offered 20% off the Kindle I purchased when I reorder (assuming it ever comes back in stock?), offered 20% off any Kindle purchase (when in stock, with no assurance that the accessories I purchased would be compatible),
As a customer, all I am requesting is the device I purchased at the price I purchased it for, and to be compensated accordingly for Amazon's mistake (whether Kindle is suffering extreme supply chain issues or was maliciously taken down in favor of an impending model refresh).
During my interactions with customer support, I was cold transferred, unexpectedly disconnected, asked to return the Kindle that I do not have, asked if I wanted to cancel the order (to which I said no), could not be told when the Kindle I ordered would be back in stock,
I had 2 requests: I am compensated for the inconvenience (free Kindle Unlimited, percentage refunded, or otherwise), and I am guaranteed a like-for-like model at the price that I paid.
I reached out to Amazon on the 24th to request an update, voice my concern, and question the rumors that Amazon purposefully discontinued the older models to force consumers to buy the new models.
According to r/kindle, this stock issue affected multiple countries. While this may have been a supply chain issue, that becomes less likely every day as the stock is not replenishing.
I had become suspicious as a new Kindle model was rumored to be coming. Third-party vendors (including Best Buy, who had had stock days prior) were also now out of stock.
On September 22nd, I received an update from Amazon to say that there had been a shipping delay and they would update me shortly. On the same day, I received the accessories as expected.
On September 12th, I ordered an in-stock Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (32 GB), along with a stand, and a remote page-turner, with an estimated delivery of September 22nd. I paid a total of $300.42.
On September 15th, Wifelington messaged me asking if Kindles were no longer available. She was attempting to order one for her mum, and they were mysteriously all out of stock on Amazon. She ended up purchasing one from Best Buy.
