🚨BREAKING : According to his lawyer, Israeli authorities have transferred Palestinian Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya to solitary confinement as a form of abuse. He is reportedly subjected to daily violent assaults and held in extremely harsh conditions without any charges.
His lawyer warns that his health is in grave danger due to the conditions of his detention.
Despite repeated statements from his legal team documenting the severity of his condition, the @BBC continues to publish misleading claims about his case. We call on the BBC to uphold the principles of accurate, evidence-based journalism and report the facts with the rigor they demand of others.
Hossam Hassan, Egypt’s head coach, gave one of the most human speeches football has heard in a long time.
A must watch:
“Whoever does not feel the Palestinian suffering lacks humanity. Please, let the Palestinian people live.”
🚨We are deeply alarmed by the reports that there is an imminent threat to Dr. #HussamAbuSafiya’s life as a result of torture and other ill treatment he has been suffering while in Israeli custody. Israeli authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abu Safiya. Pending his release, we call on the Israeli Prison service to ensure he is fully protected from abuse, granted urgent adequate medical care and allowed immediate visitation by independent monitors.

"This is the last time you will see me. They brought me here to kill me. I don't see myself surviving."
- Dr Hussam Abu Safiya to his lawyer from an Israeli prison, two days ago.
According to his lawyer, Dr Abu Safiya has been subjected to brutal torture. He bore visible signs of severe beatings to his head and body and was unable to sit properly due to the abuse.
Throughout the visit, he spoke in fear, constantly looking around, terrified that Israeli prison guards would overhear him and subject him to further punishment.
Over 5000 people from 150 countries and 750 organizations and institutions were expected to attend RightsCon in Lusaka, Zambia from today until Friday. This would have been the first time that a country in Sub-Saharan Africa hosted the event.
RightsCon is a bi-annual global conference that addresses urgent challenges on technology and human rights. But according to the organizers, foreign interference from China has now led to its postponement. This coercive pressure clearly indicates a growing pattern of Chinese authorities abusing their influence over governments to silence dissent and restrict open dialogue - particularly those of individuals that the Chinese state sees as a threat.
This is censorship, and a direct attack on freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. State-driven intimidation must face consequences.
Amnesty International strongly condemns any efforts by China to exert pressure and shut down public debate. We call on the Zambian government to transparently disclose the full reasoning behind the cancellation of RightsCon. All states must support the event organiser Access now in securing an alternative venue to ensure the conference takes place this year.
Following our April 29 announcement, we believe it's important to be transparent about the context that led to the decision. We want to explain, where we can, why this was made on such short notice, only days before we were set to host RightsCon.
