“I decided that I’ll make myself so busy with things I wish to do that I don’t get time to go down into self-pity or sadness. To me, work is an outstanding way of therapy” - Shah Rukh Khan
One of the best conversations I have seen in a while.
On culture at Nvidia, Neil mentions:
“They are a very frugal company. There was no free milk in the fridge. So, if you wanted to drink coffee at Nvidia and you wanted some milk, you actually had to chip in a dollar every month to the milk club and the milk club would stock Costco milk in the fridge.”
"A lot of people I worked with in Nvidia in 2015 / 2016 are still there today. That company has incredible retention and these are the best engineers, frankly on the silicon side at least I have worked with in my whole career. They are extremely extremely motivated and passionate."
“They have believed in parallel computing as a concept through its various incarnations and have loved seeing the chip evolve. This is their life's work and they are extremely extremely competent in that direction.”
Neil was intern at Nvidia in 2016-17 while being in college.
To build a life that actually feels like yours, get in touch with your inner madness. Become unapologetically yourself. Take the road not taken. Wake up at 5 while everyone else is sleeping. Read 900-page books. Spend a year mastering a skill nobody around you even understands. Work for 3 months straight. Build the thing you always dreamed about. Then... disappear. Fuck living by the "script". Stop following the herd. They're lost. Don’t be a sheep. Be rare. Be you. Become the person you respect and admire and get inspired from. This one mindset shift can change the entire trajectory of your life.
@4nushree__ is it sometimes you just have to do the hard things, before you can do what you really love? What is the line in between challenging yourself and going with the flow?
I love watching the office cuz no sales team is as chill as the one on the show and I find great comfort in seeing them cruise along without the low hanging fruits called targets
