Miserable children’s day.
Over 40 still missing in Oyo.
Kidnappers getting richer by the day - because our government allow children to be tortured and then reward the criminals with handsome ransom payments.
Citizens carrying on like we are not already in a battle for our lives.
Today, Children’s Day is dedicated to the Ogbomoso Children.
To the children in the forests.
To the children without safety, without protection.
To the children who now fear the same classrooms that should have held their dreams.
Children deserve safety.
They deserve care.
They deserve love from the country they call home.
This can never become our new normal.💔
I’m completely mentally drained from Nigerian news.
It’s nonstop tragedy and bad news.
There’s this sense of helplessness because innocent people are suffering
Children are being tortured and suffering and nobody who cares can do anything
Those who can do something don’t care
Some of you will say, “because they kidnapped some people, should we not eat?”
One day, if tragedy knocks on your own door, you will understand why food refuses to enter the mouth of a grieving parent. Empathy should not wait until it becomes your turn.
Speak up for them!
I know there’s a coping mechanism spirit in this country.
But honestly, I refuse to normalize this nonsense.
Inflation, insecurity, suffering everywhere… nah.
We shouldn’t be coping with problems this serious, we should be demanding better.
You slept on your bed under a duvet because of the cold
Some toddlers slept on bare floor in the rain after a long day of torture
Yet you defend the government that rehabilitate the terrorists when they are caught?
You won’t escape God’s vengeance!
Chibok Girls; The First Lady literally cried on live TV. She was even turned to a meme.
Yoruba children, Yoruba teacher beheaded; President and First Lady are celebrating APC primaries but you don’t see the issue because you are in Lekki & it’s not your nieces or nephews (yet).
There’s a particular anger that comes from being capable but stuck in Nigeria.
Not lazy, Not clueless.
Just… stuck!!
That anger doesn’t leave, It just changes shape.
@dr_afo I like the fact that u are making it clear that they faulty system is no excuse for negligence.
In summary, do your best in the faulty system but don't "overdo". What you can't medically defend isn't worth doing. Cos no matter your the care you intended, you will be accountable
To my 9ja medics, I hope you're watching and learning.
I dropped a cautionary note for us to be careful in discharging our duties and what did I get?
I got dragged like a sac of beans.
Sadly, this has done nothing but prove my point.
It shows a lot of Nigerians believe that most of us healthcare workers are perpetually negligent here.
They really see us as scum.
Many dumbasses keep saying many of us won't try what we do if we're in the UK or US?
I hope you're keeping notes.
As if our system is the same as the ones in those developed countries.
As if their system gives you the barest minimum while expecting the world and beyond.
If you follow my content, you know I do not condone medical negligence.
Being negligent because of our current reality of being short-staffed and Ill-equipped is not an excuse.
All negligent HCWs deserves to be punished.
But fam, I want you to know that our system is a huge risk factor of being negligent.
I've seen senior colleague lose licenses and their livelihood because of negligence.
I've seen a NICU nurse get sued after a baby died after a round of feeding, mother believed she killed the baby, she was only saved by autopsy findings which revealed hypoxic brain injury as cause of death.
I've seen many colleagues make mistakes from being tired and lose their licenses.
I've seen those who stepped beyond their professional boundaries for patients and get blamed for it.
An MO I know was suspended for operating on a 3 previous scar, who later developed a wound breakdown.
Many of these people thought they were being caring, but they were being negligent and patients didn't find it funny.
I know a neurosurgeon who was sued because he operated on a patient in a basic facility.
Then the patient's son came from abroad and sue him for not coming regularly to check on his dad.
This was a Neurosurgeon that was begged to do the procedure and underpaid.
However, in this instance, the son was right!
The neurosurgeon was negligent and if the case was escalated, he would have lost his license.
I want you to know that our reality as healthcare workers is very delicate.
It's very easy to become negligent while trying to circumvent the system and it's many laxes.
Which is exactly my point!
I'm not advocating for war against any patients.
As an Healthcare worker, your job is to improve the clinical condition of your patients.
However, my advise is to respect your professional boundaries.
If you're an MO, stay in your lane, don't do the work of an health assistant, a consultant, nurse or porter.
As a cardiologist, don't do the work of nurses, anaesthetist, technician, surgeon and so on just because they are not available.
Patients are watching you and they're keeping note.
Be quick to refer and document like your life depends on it.
Some things that you may see as caring is negligence.
Pure legal negligence.
Those with ears will listen and those without will not.
DO NOT GO OUT OF OUR PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES.
PATIENTS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS.
KNOW THIS AND KNOW PEACE.
@MaziPreshh I think we need to re-educate the masses about doctors and other allied workers we are not slaves we are not bodies for health disasters, we are not the hospital.
We work in the hospital and go home to places where we are loved.
Whenever I begin to feel overwhelmed overwhelmed, I remind myself of Isaiah 41:10:
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand🥹.
When people don’t consider you in the same way you consider them, let them go. There’s actually so many people in the world that can match your energy and love you the way you love.
i love people who are really good at putting beautiful words together. whether it be an essay, speech, song, poem, or even advice. i appreciate the beauty of it all.
