How well can models design icons? @andpoul and I benchmarked frontier and open weight models
The results: they’re steadily improving execution, their choices often overly literal
not every ai needs to be a little pixar character.
we're pulling inspo from TARS (interstellar), luxury watches, and string theory.
who's building other kinds of lil guys?!
Introducing Arrow 2
Our latest and most advanced models for generating precise, editable vector graphics.
Higher quality. Faster outputs. Available now in App and API.
Design Engineering Tip:
If your UI has a draggable split view, don’t make users land on perfect proportions by hand. Add sensible snap points—25 / 50 / 75—and let the handle gently settle on release. Users get precision when they need it, and a calmer interface when they don’t.
I haven't released a new course in two years because I thought AI would replace education.
I was wrong.
In a sea of AI slop, good education has never felt more relevant. So I'm releasing DesignCode 5 with a new Codex masterclass.
The new site was built entirely in Codex with lots of three.js components: https://t.co/4lxgOyj6gP
I added homework, tests, certificates, a vault, and weekly live sessions. Pro and Lifetime members also get the Product Pass, with one year of Pro access to Framer, Mobbin, Aura, and more.
GPT-5.6 Sol xHigh migrated ten years of content from a large CMS and Dropbox into Firebase. That made me realize I didn't need to build another CMS. With the right skills, Codex can handle video editing, writing, image generation, screen recording, and content updates.
I'm spending less time managing everything and more time creating. It's never been more fun.
I created a bunch of skills for this workflow. They're all in my repo, and the Three.js components are on https://t.co/25OYbxZ62e.
Huge thanks to @framer and @mobbin for believing in me and giving our Pro and Lifetime students one year of Pro access.
To every new student, welcome. I'll be there every week, giving you direct feedback and teaching you everything I know.
DesignCode 5 is 50% off for early adopters right now. There's also a $499 Lifetime option for anyone tired of another subscription.
For most of the last century, companies hired serious designers, illustrators, and artists for the most boring document they published: the annual report.
I built an archive of 3000+ of them, spanning 1945-1991.
on this note, the curators of lubalin archive actually published an online publication where they dive deep into some great niche designers + works
my fav is this one on karl gerstner talking about how he designed the perfect grid to "achieve optimum balance btw necessity and freedom"
we just wrapped our Spring quarter at @diabrowser. before i jump to the next big thing (!), a short behind-the-scenes on one of my favorite projects to date: artifacts!
the design challenge: how do you make AI-generated docs that don’t *feel* AI-generated? (🧵 1/10)
We wanted better design fundamentals from our agents.
So we fed them this 162-page pdf on designing with a grid system.
Now our agents use code to adhere to a grid and design beautiful layouts.
