The overreaction to Modi being asked one tough question in 9 years is natural.

This is a prime minister who is not used to facing difficult questions in public. So much so that him facing a question seems almost... unnatural.

His supporters have been brainwashed into believing that the PM doesn't need to answer to anyone for anything. He will do scripted interviews & speeches, and that is enough. You are expected to just take his word for it and trust him unconditionally.

On top of that, he will be constantly hailed as a great communicator and orator. As someone who delivers powerful monologues & speaks his mind. A lot.

It seems like our Prime Minister is simply incapable of having an unscripted conversation at this point. He's out of practice. And everytime he is forced to do it, it comes off as awkward and unnatural.

The supporter crowd has been brainwashed into forgetting the one basic feature of a functioning democracy: ELECTED LEADERS WILL BE QUESTIONED FOR EVERYTHING THEY DO. And they better have some answers.

When a system is built to be opaque, and when opacity is sold as a feature not a bug, then it's hardly any surprise that one single tough question by a foreign journalist would make his supporters go nuts.

In simple words: they panicked.
