Today I found out through my therapist that I was misdiagnosed as clinically depressed at the age of 8 when the symptoms I had at the time met the criteria for #OCD. Misdiagnosis is not uncommon with PCP's not familiar with the illness. That's why more awareness is so important!
Here's my take on the thought process:
You have a thought, it seems real
You become hypervigilant of your thoughts & actions
This makes the thoughts feel even more real!
You search for reassurance & use compulsions to lessen the anxiety
This makes it worse and the cycle repeats
Had another meeting today with my #OCD specialist. Learned that some #CBT can actually make OCD worse! Be cautious with any therapy that doesn't specialize in OCD specifically!
If they are giving you reassurance (like my old CBT therapist did) that is wrong for OCD treatment!
the worst day of your life, then it can only get better! Bad days are not permanent ๐๐
Just keep pushing and have faith in yourself!
It can and will get better when the effort is put in!

Yesterday was not. a great day for me. The last few days I felt like I had the strength to really beat my #OCD but yesterday I crashed! I was anxious all day and couldnt handle the #intrusivethoughts as well as normal. But I knew better days were coming and I had to ride out
the storm! #OCDRecovery is a rollercoaster and it should be expected. Just know one bad day does not eliminate days or weeks of progress! Everyone has bad days, though it may seem like the end of your recovery, know you are stronger and if this feels like t
Another great weekend! I hope everyone else enjoyed theres! Just ended my night with Taco Bell and now I'm ready to turn in!
Remember to drink that water and moisturize! โค treat yo self with kindness like you would a friend!
Sleep tight ๐๐
@musicalgal123 That is a very common symptom of OCD too! But some days are worse than others and im glad your medications have been working well for you!
Some of the subtypes of OCD!
I struggle with harm, existential, and "Pure O".
I've been at rock bottom where I felt consumed by my thoughts to where I almost gave up but I know recovery is possible. Though I'm not 100% recovered, I can confidently say I'm about 75%! Its possible
Wonderful thread about was #OCD can actually look like and about #Intrusivethoughts !!! Linked free resources at the end as well for anyone that may need it! ๐๐
If anyone is struggling with their #OCD & does not believe recovery is possible please look up Mark Freeman on YouTube! His videos helped me so very much in the beginning of my journey. He explains his own journey with the illness and give great tips and advice! ๐ #OCDAwareness
ACCEPT UNCERTAINTY! Dont give #OCD the satisfaction or the fuel by doing mental rituals like reassurance or checking!
This only fuels your OCD and makes it stronger. Talk back with Maybe Statements such as "maybe that will happen and maybe not."
You got this! ๐ #OCDTips
I hope everyone is having a great day! I woke up with anxiety and dragged about for 2 hours.
But I had an appointment with my #OCD Specialist and she gave me some tools to deal with my mental rituals.
I'm gonna make this day end on a good note! I hope you all do the same
