Elementary Ed Major🍎 WCU-2019 👩🏼🎓 “There is this beautiful thing called imperfect progress.... slow steps of progress wrapped in grace.” ~Lysa Terkheurst
Imperfect progress.... the journey doesn’t have to look exactly like we thought it would to be good. It can be full of highs & lows but still be so very good.
Imperfect is a guarantee.
Progress is what we can shoot for.
And we can choose to see the good in the midst of it all.
BAM!!! ...and just like that, the 2019 Transformative Rural Urban Exchange between NC A&T and Western Carolina teacher candidates has come to an end. They will #challengemyths and #disruptnarratives about rural and urban schools for the STUDENTS! #aggieseducate#educatorsunited
@Ms_Boyd_McDaris I love this! This is so true to, I think if children are given strategies that are clearly defined, then it allows for them to understand expectations! Students also are given a challenge which creates a friendly game that works on improving behavior in a positive way!
I attended a teacher panel on classroom management. My number one take away was what one of the teachers said. "To have and maintain good classroom management you must establish rapport with your students and their parents." #edel339
A current trend in education: students taking their future serious. As educators, I believe it is our duty to harness this social justice movement among our young students and most of all educate them on different issues by teaching the truth! #edel339
Recent headlines point to all kinds of student action, from tackling climate change to advocating for more equitable schools. In this edition of The Moment, use our resources to support your students when they take the lead in shaping a better future. https://t.co/U9SHhKo4SJ
@mjself12 I couldn’t agree more! I think as teachers, empowering girls in our classroom can start with making sure they have literature to read that is wrote by female authors!

R5: The most important question I would ask an experienced or teacher would be, "what are the 3 most important things I need know as a first year teacher?"
I think the most challenging part of being a new teacher will be, classroom management, figuring out what works and what doesn't. Reading, and understanding data and how to use that data to inform your instruction that creates the most effective learning environment.
@MegRyanLee This is so cool! I love the marbel mazes and how creative the students were with them! It gives students something fun and active to do while facilitating learning!
This is a very interesting way to have students become critical thinkers. Not only do they assess their own knowledge of a concept or topic but they also have to know that concept or topic well enough to explain it which creates a deeper level thinking. #edel339
I witnessed a young teacher do something today I have never seen. While reading the story, she said: “Stand up if you know the term, ‘refugee.’ Ok, each of you go to someone who is seated and explain the term to them. We will keep doing this until all are standing.”

What a wonderful way to get kids interested in doing a book report. I like that they have choice in how they present their reports. Really puts emphasis on the “power of choice.” Who said all book reports had to be 12 point font, double-space in Times New Romans? 🤷🏼♀️ #edel339
"When you commit your life to equality and social justice, you accept that change can be rather slow. But together, we’ve proven that change is always possible, and that through grit, perseverance, and sacrifice, progress can be inevitable." @BeckyPringle@HRC#TimeToThrive
@mswilliams3rd I completely agree! I think that the more we as teachers focus on teaching students and feeding them knowledge, the scores will reflect their growth as learners and not test takers.
I find this article an interesting read. Puts into perspective the effort behind changing assessment from multiple choice to performance based assessment. It helps me understand as a teacher what it takes to rethink how I teach to match assessment strategies. #edel339#assessment
