@BFrannister @StarWarsVisComp Sorry, but i hate to tell you, this footage is from a trailer. And it was originally cropped that way. Here's a snapshot from both the doc and the trailer that can be found here: https://t.co/4085V9ACn0(at about 0.58). It's the same footage used
@StarWarsVisComp @BFrannister What i'm saying is, if they have scanned the whole movie to use in this doc, why use a shot that's NOT from the same scan? It's not just been cropped for use in the doc, it's cropped at source. Likely from a trailer.
@StarWarsVisComp @BFrannister But here is another reason why i think they are not using new scans of the films, but more likely supplementary material like trailers etc. If they have rescanned the movies themselves , then why are they using this shot?
@StarWarsVisComp @BFrannister Holy crap those look awful. It looks like they have run it though an AI filter. Those have ghost artefacts from the previous and following frame from the bright sections like torpedoes etc. A common problem with these AI programs that i've used.
@BFrannister @StarWarsVisComp They didn't even bother to deinterlace this SD footage when upscaling in the BOBF Disney Gallery doc and it looks terrible.
@BFrannister @StarWarsVisComp They use SD upscaled footage all the time of their Disney+ SW docs. On the Mando/ BOBF docs they've used old interlaced SD footage
@BFrannister @StarWarsVisComp Take this shot for example. You can see the ghost image of the laser from the previous frame in the top right portion of the picture. Having used Topaz Video Enhance for a while now & having to deal with its flaws, these tell-tale signs stick out to me
@BFrannister @StarWarsVisComp Not compression artefacts. These are specific upscaling artefacts. Because upscaling software AI use previous & following frames you get leftover artefacts ,especially with things like lasers /sabers. So you get an artefact ghost image of certain elements on the following frame.
