The members of @UAW's Massachusetts CAP Council met for a daylong retreat today to review our political program, debrief this year’s electoral cycle, and strategize about our legislative priorities for the coming year. Special thanks to @AFTMass for hosting us!
Last December, @UAW released a joint report with @NY4ChildCare outlining how investing in child care would advance the affordability agenda by putting money back in working families' pockets. https://t.co/asGvkqtfCL
Bob Brooks, a retired firefighter running for congress in the Lehigh Valley, was in the Pa capitol on Monday in his role as a union leader advocating for cancer screenings for firefighters.
I love saying that getting to majority sponsors on a bill is not "doing the basic legislative work that can move a bill"
Also love I have 60 bills in my committee but none have majority sponsors so I am blocking the one that does bc to me"legislative work is something else"
Hey @OsseChi – the reason your bill hasn’t moved is because you are focused on doing what gets you attention, rather than doing basic legislative work that can move the bill.
You refuse to engage with relevant stakeholders; and skip public safety hearings where you could question the commissioner directly and get conversations moving. Your attendance record says everything we need to know: you literally have the *worst* attendance record of all 51 Councilmembers this session; and when you attend Stateds via Zoom, you leave as soon as you possibly could. (See video!)
It’s unfortunate that you are more interested in doing the performative stuff for social media attention, rather than doing the difficult work to resolve this important issue.
P.S. No one is blocking your bill. Stop the rage-bait. There are roughly 60 bills under my committee. Bills move when sponsors do the legislative work, not when they prioritize the political theater.
Congratulations to my friend @ShawnFainUAW on winning his re-election for president of @UAW.
Now we get to work — for 2028 and beyond. As Shawn put it: “It’s time to decide what kind of a world we want to live in. And it’s time to decide what we are willing to do to get there.”
Congratulations to UAW President Shawn Fain on his reelection. Shawn is one of the great union leaders in our country.
He has taken on the billionaire class, won strong victories for his members and understands the need to organize, organize, organize.
Solidarity forever!
Stood with @spocuaw members outside Mount Sinai yesterday to demand a fair contract, along with fellow Dem nominees. The staff has brought in millions in research dollars. Management should come to the table and support the workers.
