We were just getting to know Gary, and we are all grieving terribly. As the new chair of the Biology Department, I send our most sincere condolences to Gary’s family, friends, and colleagues. He was a wonderful person, and he will be missed. It is just so, so sad.
The Amherst Bio Dept is deeply saddened to have lost our new colleague Dr. Gary Heussler so soon after we had welcomed him into our community this summer. He brought such excitement and enthusiasm for microbiology and teaching, and we felt so lucky that he had joined us.
