day 22 update on the methylene blue fly experiment
mblue-treated flies show ~80% survival vs ~91% in controls. this reduction aligns with previous reports: drosophila cuticle allows significantly more light penetration than mammalian skin, and mbue is a photoreactive redox dye capable of generating reactive intermediates under illumination. together, this can artificially accelerate oxidative stress and bias lifespan curves.
our next step is clear โ a fully controlled dark-condition assay to isolate mbโs true impact on aging biology.
weโre now shifting the direction of the project toward building and funding this experiment.

bonus: mb-treated flies continue to outperform controls in locomotor assays, possibly due to enhanced mitochondrial electron shuttling.
