For the first time in over 50 years, humans are Moonbound.
At 6:35 p.m. EDT (2235 UTC) NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft lifted off from the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, sending four astronauts on a planned test flight around the Moon and back. https://t.co/0Q9ZB4IWVI
The Orion spacecraft successfully separated from the upper stage of the rocket, and the "proximity operations" test is underway. The Artemis II astronauts are manually piloting Orion similarly to how they would if they were docking with another spacecraft.

STRONG MESSAGING about the seriousness of the cold and wind on Saturday from the National Weather Service. Power outages possible. Longest period with subzero wind chills in 30+ years.
A good day to stay inside, or bundle up big time if you have to be outside.
Posted 1105p Friday
Temps near 20 and falling early morning. Winds roaring with gusts already up to around 40 mph. Keeps wind chills getting far from zero. Some power outages possible as winds peak mid-morning to mid-afternoon.
Still cold Sunday but gradually less so after: https://t.co/PGXWoWr2f1
Wind chills have dipped into the single digits to around zero
Don’t let the abundant sunshine fool you, it’s rough out there this morning. Temperatures have continued to fall after sunrise, with most of the region now in the teens to around 20 degrees.
Temperatures were slightly slower to drop off overnight than forecast, which is so far keeping wind chills mostly in the single digits to around zero rather than below zero in a widespread fashion. We may still see numbers dip a bit before stabilizing around mid-morning.
Gusts have been impressive for this early in the day, since peak winds tend to come during midday in these events. National Airport has reached 48 mph, with 46 mph recorded at Dulles and 49 mph at BWI. Peak winds should occur between about 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when speeds between 50 and 60 mph are possible.
