I was probably 5 or 6 years old when I first came across the reality of death. My aunt (mother’s elder sister) came to visit for the first time in my memory. Married to struggling artists the sisters, thick as thieves in their childhood, hardly met now #livingwithcancer#Cancer

@shireenazam Hopefully when that happens those around them can fact-check them. So many people let their masks of human decency and value-driven secularity drop that I don’t even know if it’s possible for that cat to go back into the bag
Sanjay Vashist, Director, Climate Action Network South Asia on the disappointing outcome of COP28: "...if this is what a 'historical outcome' looks like, then it is on the wrong side of history."
Very difficult to stomach developed countries talking self-congratulatorily about "climate justice" when they're the perpetuators of massive injustice by failing to reduce emissions, deliver finance, support adaptation and L&D, & enable a real fossil fuel phaseout globally #COP28
There's lots of announcements and news coming out of #COP28. I'm here to rank them for you from a climate scientist's perspective, using 🌴 for the wins and 🤦♀️ for the facepalms.
Did I miss something? Let me know and I'll add it to this list! #ClimateAction#COP28FromHome 🧵
My reaction to the Opening of Pre-COP at Abu Dhabi, UAE
"We must move past mere recognition of fossil fuel phase-out demands. COP28 must not only promise this in writing but also present a tangible roadmap for a global Just Transition.
"COP28 President Designate emphasises the urgent need for nations to address climate finance, bolster support for adaptation, and confront loss and damage in developing regions.
"The onus remains on affluent countries, whose unmet past commitments have created a significant resource gap. Only by acknowledging their historical actions and responding commensurately can we harbour hope of combating the climate crisis."
- Harjeet Singh, head of global political strategy, @CANIntl
Dr Haq was a leader in the space of loss and damage, and climate justice. This is such a devastating loss. The little interaction I’d had with him was always so inspiring and motivating. Such a deep feeling of loss.

BBC Verify asked three "experts" about the bombing of the Al-Ahli hospital.
The "experts" concluded that the blast was "not consistent" with a "typical Israeli airstrike".
But who were these "experts"? Thread:
We know, as Jews, the consequences of dehumanization, ghettoization, denial of food & medicine, the warning signs of fascism. We know what it is like to have the world, the US, ignore our cries to live. We know as Jews what it is like to be penned in & systemically slaughtered.🧵
We know, as Jews, the lie that if we accept transport, if we evacuate, our lives will be spared. We know what it is like to have entire family lines wiped out. We know genocide when we see it. We are seeing it now in Gaza. Never Again means for anyone. NEVER AGAIN IS NOW!
Unfortunately this is a repercussion of parachuting journalists into stories and places where they fail to recognize even the existence of alternative realities and politics. This piece by @nytimes May have irreversibly hurt Indian journalism which was already gasping for air
Really shocking how much damage a single scaremongering article by the @nytimes has done to journalism in India. And they were warned that this would happen.

@rwclimate @Greenpeace@ECOWARRIORSS@SaleemulHuq@harjeet11 If the shoe was on the other foot I bet the inequality and inequity would be the primary concern. The Eurocentric debate on climate has caused irreparable damage
