@taipan168 tbf they do have other levers, its just that they’re either unsustainable (fx manipulation) or won’t help reduce inflation (qe and tff style loans)
@MitchellJHobbs@PriestYatesy@pwafork right because she needed to get a paid gig for that? she couldn’t just rock up and give a speech? people do that all the time at sydney uni without consideration
@kiaran_ritchie fortnite exists and isn’t on steam. tarkov wasn’t on steam for the longest time, WoW still isn’t on steam and CoD took a 5 year hiatus.
steam doesn’t have a monopoly, steam just provides the best service.
@aaronsmith >50% of the electricity generation in victoria is coal
additionally wholesale is only appx 1/3 the cost of power in Aus, different story when talking retail
but don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story, will we, champ
it will never cease to amaze me the mental gymnastics people will go through to try and justify “steam bad” when it’s literally the most open platform for games
It's really sad that the games industry is drained by a 30% tax on gross revenue.
You could vibe code a Steam alternative in a week. Cloudflare egress is basically free.
The industry is in desperate need of a distribution platform that allows developers to keep their revenue.
Networks effects and the fanatic obsession with "muh Steam library" will make this very difficul.
But if devs could actually keep their earnings, we'd have a greater selection of better games and far more financial success stories.
@CampbellNewman you were premier, why didn’t you try and change those things when you were in power? why ask those questions now that you’re not in the big boy seat?
