The UN said a couple of weeks ago staying below 1.5 degrees is now impossible unless we see "a radical transformation of society". So all the papers ran with headlines like this. None ran with "how about we have a radical transformation of society?" Sounds far preferable to me..
From the @IEA's latest report:
"High energy prices are causing a huge transfer of wealth from consumers to producers."
Fossil fuel companies have made $2 trillion more this year than in 2021.
I just get tired...Tired of hearing that 1.5°C is a "target" or "goal". IT IS NOT. It is a limit. The only real goal is 0°C. And not bad 1.5°C, when we LIKELY tip GIS, WAIS, Tropical Coral Reefs and Abrupt Boreal Permafrost, and get more floods, droughts, heat, disease, storms.
And just like that (with a slight CoVid delay), the music in every anodyne public place - café, waiting room, cab - moves forward a decade to the 1990s. The long cycle of culture is fascinating.
“The idea for making this video joking about how Chevron, along with all the other oil companies, are murdering us every day, came from the fact that Chevron and all the other oil companies are murdering us every day,” @GhostPanther said https://t.co/zunfw5WfyC
Wow
@antonioguterres is not mincing his words at UNGA re: climate change:
"lobbyists and spin doctors have spewed harmful misinformation..."
"fossil fuel interests need to spend less time averting a PR disaster – and more time averting a planetary one"
This is the culture of fear and abuse that climate sceptics - and their media / political / lobbyist enablers - have created.
Shocking.
"Most of the abuse seems to have been prompted as links were made between the heatwave and climate change."
