I signed a petition telling Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture Marc Miller to respect the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and its curatorial independence.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights recently opened Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present, an exhibition examining Palestinian history, culture, displacement and lived experience. The exhibition offers Canadians an important opportunity to learn about the Nakba and its continuing impact on Palestinians in Canada and around the world.
Since its opening, the museum and its leadership have faced organized campaigns demanding political intervention, public condemnation and institutional consequences. Elected officials, including Minister of Canadian Heritage Marc Miller, have also commented on the exhibition’s content, which has raised serious concerns about political pressure on a publicly funded museum and the independence of its curators, researchers, advisors, and staff.
People have every right to debate or criticize an exhibition. But politicians and pressure groups should not decide which histories Canadians are permitted to encounter or pressure museums to alter, discredit or distance themselves from professionally curated work.
This issue extends beyond one exhibition. Public museums must be able to present difficult and contested histories honestly, thoughtfully and according to evidence and professional standards.

We look forward to attending the opening of the Palestine Uprooted Exhibit at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
We thank PM Mark Carney for not responding to the Israeli Ambassador's interventions.
Canadians are done with Zionist trade deals.
A majority of Canadians think it's unacceptable to give Israeli products from illegal settlements a free pass into Canada.
This feeling is highest in BC, with men & with younger Canadians. @MarkJCarney

Canadians want to end the economic free ride for Zionists & Israel.
The MAJORITY of Canadians want the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement changed or cancelled all together.
This feeling is particularly high in Quebec & with younger Canadians. @MarkJCarney

The more Canadians learn about Israel & Zionists, the more they support Palestine.
Twice as many Canadians think Canada 🇨🇦 should be MORE supportive of Palestine than Israel. The gap rises to 3:1 for women & younger Canadians. @MarkJCarney

This is huge.
The Canadian Labour Congress, the largest labour body in Canada, representing more than 3 million workers has just voted to cut ties with Israel's Federation of Labour.
Congrats to those who made this happen - let's keep going.
In the last 3 (!) negotiations with Iran, the U.S.-Israel have killed the negotiators, including Kamal Kharrazi, 81, who died from his injuries today. His wife was almost killed.
Israel also killed Hamas negotiators every chance they got. We are the least self aware people to ever live.

In the late '90s, Palestinian Aljazeera presenter Jamal Rayan confronted 'israel's' foreign minister live on air:
'Shimon Peres, your house is on my land, and I have the documents. When will the refugees return?'
Peres replied: 'You Arabs have many countries, we will find somewhere for you to go'.
Rayan came into work the next day with the legal documents expecting a scolding but he was warmly welcomed by his colleagues and kept his job until his final day.
Rayan later explained that his father was a farmer in Haifa. He said that land was the most precious thing to him. Rayan carried those deeds his whole life.
Today, he returned to his Lord before he could return to his land.
May God have mercy on his soul.
Indeed, to God we belong, and to Him, we shall return
It occurred to me that, in the context of:
- the shots fired late at night at empty synagogues,
- the mass shooting at the mosque in Québec City that killed six people and injured 19, and
- the killing of the Afzaal family on the basis of their faith,
our gov’t is sending the message that Jewish-Canadian *property* is worth substantially more than Muslim-Canadian *lives*. Which does not sit right with me as someone (and a Jewish-Canadian, no less) who believes in fair and equal treatment and safety for all.
