No it doesn’t make you a bad person mkoma. In a democracy you have every right to support CAB3 just as others have the right to oppose it. The concern is that while you are free to express your support, your ‘friends’ denied others that same freedom by criminalising, arresting & intimidating those who simply said No to CAB3. I believe the democracy in our constitution should not be tested by how we treat those like you who agreed with bill, but by how we protect the rights of those who disagreed with the bill.

How ED's Zimbabwe has reduced ordinary people's dignity to a rationed scoop of rice.

Grown men and women, elders who witnessed independence with hope in their eyes, now stand in line clutching plastic bags like beggars in their own country. They smile. They say thank you. They praise the very hand that has kept them hungry.

Nearly half a century after independence, rural Zimbabwe remains frozen in deprivation. No meaningful infrastructure. No sustainable livelihoods. No dignity. Just periodic handouts, carefully rationed, politically branded and deliberately insufficient. A cup of rice is not food security. It is a symbol of a system that survives by keeping its people on the brink. This is not generosity. This is control.

While this spectacle unfolds in the villages, Harare tells a different story. There, the ruling elite feast. Luxury vehicles and stashes of hard currency are handed out to celebrities, social media personalities and loyalists alike. Money flows freely among the politically connected. Corruption is not hidden, it is flaunted and celebrated.

The same government that cannot provide adequate basic needs and amenities to the rural villagers, can somehow afford to bankroll influence and loyalty in the capital city and on social media.

ED and his Zviganandas are using poverty as a tool to control the people. A population that depends on handouts is easier to command, easier to mobilize, easier to silence. Gratitude from the poor and desperate masses then replaces accountability. Survival then replaces resistance.

For decades, the rural poor have survived not because of the state, but by remittances from relatives in South Africa and the broader diaspora. That lifeline is now shrinking. As the SA borders tighten and opportunities disappear, the illusion that the government provides for its poor people will soon become harder to maintain.

What happens when the remittances stop ? What happens when a cup of rice is no longer enough to mask decades of neglect ? This video is not heartwarming. It is damning. It is the image of a government that has perfected the politics of starvation while enriching itself without shame. It is the quiet tragedy of a people taught to celebrate crumbs while the bakery is looted in broad daylight.

Zimbabweans must ask themselves a difficult question, how long will gratitude be given for what should never have been taken away in the first place ? Dignity for Zimbabweans cannot continue to be measured in cups of rice. @bbmhlanga @advocatemahere @LynneStactia
