@petereharrell Unless the decision radically redefines what an "emergency" is, though, it won't change his ability to impose sanctions quickly. He obviously likes tariffs more, but are you worried that he'll start using sanctions rather than wait 3-6 months to impose targeted tariffs?

@Brad_Setser Maybe we're getting too hung up on the term export. Seems likely the H20s are not being exported from the US and the BIS licenses are reexport licenses. So the "tax" could reach as far as the foreign direct product rule. (Still terrible, obviously.)

@dylan522p Isn't this a bad version of the likely outcome under AI diffusion if hyperscalers had UVEU and g42 got NVEU? The differences are 1. UVEUs were just ratio limited 2. No security requirements set in advance here and 3. more leverage for UAE in negotiations with hyperscalers.

@rkylesmith Let's apply the "what if Republicans could do it?" standard. They 100% will bring any case they can against Biden, and Trump tried to do it with Hillary. Their "problem" is that there aren't any crimes, but if Republicans had even half the case that Bragg did they'd go for it.

@coloradotravis @TheStalwart When I lived in DC, a person asking the question was painted as trying to learn what people did so the questioner could decide how to use those people to advance the questioner's career. Maybe that was true if like hill interns were asking, but otherwise seemed self-important.
