Let's go a click deeper on this video. At a physical network level, DAWN is only two layers:

1) Distribution Layer (city-wide connectivity)

This is how connectivity moves around a city. Think rooftop / balcony / window antennas, forming outdoor connections you see in the video.

What you get: ultra low-cost, multi-gig Internet.

2) Access Layer (last-50 meters / in-building)

This is how users actually connect at scale, and seamlessly, within buildings and neighborhoods. Think indoor access points / routers in apartments.

What you get: seamless, instant access to that cheap bandwidth from the distribution layer.

That’s the whole mental model.

So DAWN’s objective is twofold:

(1) create a worldwide, open, city-scale distribution layer so that anyone can tap into multi-gigabit connectivity using fixed wireless.

What this looks like: Anyone in a city can slap an antenna on their roof, balcony, window, etc. and they can get low-cost connectivity, and even sell surplus to other buildings nearby. Imagine the seamlessness and ubiquitiy of Starlink, but for dense urban markets.

(2) build a shared wireless fabric for every building / neighborhood

What this looks like: A coordinated 6GHz local mesh in each building / neighborhood so you can instantly connect and get high-speed access.
