It's easy to get caught up only on those protestors who lost their lives *on* January 6. However, we can't forget Matthew Perna, Mark Aungst, Christopher Stanton Georgia, and Jord Meacham, who took their lives under duress *after* January 6.

There are so many tragic stories around January 6 that didn't end on January 6. It has been catastrophic for thousands of people, of all walks of life, which is why we must break the narratives. I’ll never forget being in my apartment on house arrest, with a government issued tracking monitor on my ankle, reading of the death of Matt Perna almost exactly 2 years ago.

His obituary was blisteringly honest.

His family unabashedly blamed the DOJ for killing Matt’s spirit and driving him to end his life.

I didn’t know any other J6 defendants at that time, but I (and hundreds of others) was living the same experience Matt was that drove him to decide that death was better than continuing to endure persecution from mentally ill people who want so desperately to believe that Donald Trump led an insurrection on J6, and that people standing where they weren’t allowed to stand were terrorists, that they literally made it up.

Matt’s death hit all of us so hard because it validated what we’d been living and feeling for over a year: that what was happening in America was hideously and sickeningly abnormal and horrifying.

Though we never got to know him, Matt has become a brother, a son, a grandson, a nephew to all of us whose eyes are open to the evil and the corruption that led Matt to make the tragic choice that he did.
