@brianeharrison The State agencies are the unelected 4th branch that rule outside their authority. HHSC is running amok and needs to be stopped. The Governor allows his agencies to write laws. #txlege must end these abuses of power.
I just saw a bumper sticker in Texas this morning “Democrats don’t let democrats buy Teslas.” The problem I have with this is I don’t want democrats or anyone else telling me what to buy. We need to get out of the habit of telling people what to do. There is a large of group of people in our country that want to tell others what they should do. We need to normalize leaving people alone. There is also a large group of people who like to be told what to do. It is time to normalize Freedom.
@MaryBowdenMD TX HHSC is going to have OIG check in the potential for over billing Medicaid. I suggest you forward any information you have to the OIG as well.
@agg97ie Thank you for reaching out. This information has been forwarded to the OIG for further review. To report any instances of suspected benefits fraud, please contact the Texas HHS Office of Inspector General. To use their online reporting form, visit: https://t.co/QbBCjlOOrg.
Unrealized gains tax for Gen-Z:
You buy a Pokémon card for $50.
Someone offers you $500 for it. You say no. You love that card. You're keeping it.
The government says: "Cool, but that card is worth $500 now. You owe us $100 in taxes."
You: "…I didn't sell it."
Government: "Don't care. Pay up."
You don't have $100 lying around. So you're forced to sell the card you love just to pay a tax on money you never received.
Next month? That card drops back to $50.
Your card is gone. Your money is gone. And the government shrugs.
That's a wealth tax on unrealized gains. They don't pay you back the tax...
Now picture this.
Your mom calls you crying. She has to sell the house she raised you in. Not because she can't afford it. She's lived there 30 years. It's paid off.
But some website says it's worth more now and the government says she owes $15,000 she doesn't have.
So she sells your childhood home. The kitchen where she made you breakfast. The doorframe where she marked your height every birthday.
Gone.
To pay a tax on money that was never real.
Now picture the opposite.
Your dad put everything into his small business. For 20 years he built it from nothing. One year the business is "valued" at $2 million on paper. He owes a massive tax bill. He empties his savings. Sells his truck. Borrows money. Pays it.
Next year the market crashes. His business is worth $200,000.
He lost everything to pay a tax on a number that doesn't exist anymore.
Does the government give him his money back?
No.
Does the government give him his truck back?
No.
Does the government care?
No.
They sold this idea as "taxing billionaires." But billionaires have armies of lawyers, offshore accounts, and trusts. They'll be fine.
You know who won't be fine? Your mom. Your dad. Your neighbor with a small business. The farmer down the road who's had the same land for four generations and now has to sell it because dirt got expensive.
You're not taxing wealth. You're taxing people for owning things.
It's like getting a parking ticket for a car you might drive somewhere someday.
They want you to own nothing and be happy. To fund the fraud, waste and abuse of the welfare state they created.
There is enough money. More tax isn't needed. It's all a lie. But you've been gaslit into believing this is a rich vs poor debate.
I hope you understand what's at stake.
@JeramyKitchen If you think they are bad wait to you see how TX HHSC operates. They write their own laws by policies. The #txlege abdicates their authority by letting the executive branch write law.
The IRS is going to start screening my calls
Me: "Hi, I'm calling because I got this penalty notice and---"
Agent: "Tax ID please"
Me: "---I don't think I owe this. The notice shows a 1099 I didn't receive"
Agent: "So you didn't report a 1099?"
Me: "Right, because I never got it."
Agent: "Well I see it here on your account."
Me: "You see the 1099?"
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "So you have the 1099, and I don't have the 1099."
Agent: "Correct."
Me: "And I'm being penalized."
Agent: "You should have received it."
Me: "But I didn't. And you did."
Agent: "The employer was supposed to send it."
Me: "But they only sent it to you."
Agent: "We were both supposed to receive copies."
Me: "So they failed to send it to me, they succeeded in sending it to you, and I'm the one getting penalized."
Agent: "You need to report your income, sir."
Me: "How? I don't know what it is."
Agent: "It's on the 1099."
Me: "Which I didn't have."
Agent: "You still need to report it."
Me: “How? You're the one with the information."
Agent: "That's between you and your employer"
Me: "I'm just trying to understand. You have the document. You know the amount. You caught the discrepancy. Without me doing anything. And now I owe money?"
Agent: "You owe a penalty."
Me: "For what?"
Agent: "Not reporting the income."
Me: "That I didn't know about."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "That the IRS knew about."
Agent: "Correct."
Me: "But I should have known about."
Agent: "Right."
Me: "And that's my problem? How do I know there's not more missing stuff?"
Agent: "Well you could request your Wage and Income Transcript. It shows all your income sources we have record of."
Me: "Wait. You have a... transcript?"
Agent: "Everyone has a transcript, sir. It shows all reported income and some deductions."
Me: "You can see all my income."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "From the 1099s and W2s?!”
Agent: "Right."
Me: "So you have a complete record of my income."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "And you knew about this 1099 because it's on that transcript."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "So why does anyone file a return? Couldn't you just... look at the transcript and know what someone owes?"
Agent: "I don't---."
Me: "But instead you make everyone fill out forms?"
Agent: "That's how tax works, sir "
Me: "Can I see the transcript?"
Agent: "Of course. You just needed to request it"
Me: "Why wouldn't you just automatically send it to me every year?"
Agent: "We don't do that sir."
Me: "So the IRS requires me to transcribe information that's already on your transcript that you make me request so that you can penalize me when I don't transcribe it correctly?"
Me: "Feels like a set-up"
Agent: "That's how tax works. Is there anything else I can help you with today, sir?
Me: “I’d like to go ahead and request that transcript can you send it to me?”
Agent: “Sure thing, I’ll get you that fax number”
Me: “The what---”
Dear @SpeakerJohnson and @JamesComer,
I respectfully request to be allowed to be present for the testimony of Bill and Hillary Clinton if/when that occurs. I was their Air Force Military Aide from 1996-1998. I’ve spoken and written about their crimes since.
My request is not based on retribution (of any sort). I’d just like to personally witness their injustice in a public setting.
Thank you for your time.
Very Respectively,
Robert “Buzz” Patterson
Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (RET)
Let me reiterate this for you all. I'll speak a little louder for those in the back.
Ahem...
I DO NOT GRANT RIGHTS. I DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN GROUPS TO HAVE RIGHTS.
I TELL THE GOVERNMENT THAT THEY DO NOT GET TO INFRINGE UPON ANYONE'S RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS.
THE RIGHT IS INHERENT IN ALL PEOPLE, NOT JUST THE PEOPLE YOU LIKE.
That is all.
TAX MAN: Hey you! Your W-2 is ready. Pumped for tax season.
ME: Awesome, so I can file my taxes now?
TAX MAN: Nope, your wife’s W2 isn’t ready yet.
ME: Cool. I'll see if she knows her ADP login.
TAX MAN: Hey. Your 1098 is ready.
ME: Great, that’s my mortgage interest right?
TAX MAN: Yep. But your loan got sold last year haha. So you’ll get two 1098s, one from each bank.
ME: Yea I remember getting a letter about that at some point…that's like the 3rd time our mortgage has been sold.
TAX MAN: Btw only 1 of your 1098s is ready. The other isn't.
ME: Cool, so I still can't really file yet.
TAX MAN: Yep. But your brokerage account 1099s will come out in mid-Feb.
TAX MAN: Go look for a Consolidated 1099, or separate 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, 1099-R.
ME: I thought 1099s were for people who were contract-based employees or gig workers?
TAX MAN: Nah, 1099s are for so many things man.
TAX MAN: Did you sell RSUs last year? If so, you'll get a 1099-B that shows $0 basis, so you'll want to go get a Supplemental Information document from your broker.
ME: Cool, thanks for the heads up. Someone will tell me that explicitly, right?
TAX MAN: Not at all.
ME: Cool. What’s the difference between 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC?
TAX MAN: 1099-NEC (Non-Employee Compensation) reports payments to contractors. 1099-MISC (Miscellaneous) reports other types of payments like rent, royalties, and prizes, etc.
TAX MAN: They changed it a few years ago but didn't really tell anyone.
ME: Why are you the way you are?
TAX MAN: Nobody knows.
ME: Looks like I got a 1099-K this year?
TAX MAN: Did you sell something online?
ME: I sold a couch on Facebook Marketplace
TAX MAN: For how much?
ME: $600...
TAX MAN: Congratulations, you’re a business now.
ME: Okay I have all my 1099s, I’m ready to file.
TAX MAN: Did you check for corrected forms?
ME: What?
TAX MAN: Sometimes they prepare a corrected one to recharacterize income or fix mistakes.
TAX MAN: They come like a few weeks later.
ME: So should I wait?
TAX MAN: Up to you man.
TAX MAN: File now and maybe amend later?
TAX MAN: Or wait, and maybe it never comes.
ME: Cool.
ME: Oh btw, I invested in a private company last year.
TAX MAN: Ah, you’ll be getting a K-1 now LOL.
ME: Great, when?
TAX MAN: LOL.
ME: Taxes are due in a couple months...
TAX MAN: Right.
ME: But the form comes in October?
TAX MAN: Sometimes September if you’re lucky!
ME: So what do I do?
TAX MAN: File an extension and make a payment.
ME: I filed an extension, but I think we owe money.
TAX MAN: Yeah you'll need to pay that by 4/15.
ME: But I don’t know how much I owe?
ME: Because I don’t have all my forms...
TAX MAN: You estimate. 100% of last year's tax or 90% of this year's tax....or else you get slapped with thousands in underpayment penalties/interest.
ME: What if I make over $150,000?
TAX MAN: Then you have to pay in 110% of last year's tax....or 90% of this year's tax.
ME: What if I estimate wrong?
TAX MAN: Penalty.
ME: What if I overpay?
TAX MAN: They’ll refund it eventually.
ME: With interest?
TAX MAN: LOL no.
ME: I did everything right.
ME: I have all my forms
ME: I filed on time
ME: I’m getting a refund
TAX MAN: Congratulations
ME: When will I get it?
TAX MAN: The IRS says 21 days
TAX MAN: It’s been 12 weeks
TAX MAN: Your return is “still being processed”.
ME: Can I call someone?
TAX MAN: You can try.
TAX MAN: They’re experiencing higher than normal call volume.
ME: For how long?
TAX MAN: Since 2019.
ME: What if I just don’t file?
TAX MAN: Prison.
ME: What if I file wrong?
TAX MAN: Also prison, but less likely.
ME: What if my accountant files wrong?
TAX MAN: Still your fault.
ME: Can I just move somewhere with no income tax?
TAX MAN: You can try!
ME: What if I leave the country?
TAX MAN: You still have to file.
TAX MAN: For ten years after you renounce citizenship.
ME: This is tyranny.
TAX MAN: That's funny because that's actually how this whole thing started.
