Passport doesn't prove your citizenship.
Voter ID doesn't give you voting rights.
And now, a marriage certificate doesn't validate your marriage.
Coming up next...
The registered sale deed of your house doesn't prove your house ownership.
Your vehicle RC doesn't prove your vehicle ownership.
We are complicating things, rather than simplifying.
"The Election Commission told the Supreme Court that the SIR would be used only for inclusion or deletion from the voter list. But immediately after the court upheld the policy, it began being used for other purposes. In my case, it's my passport. I've also heard of welfare benefits being threatened because names were removed from the SIR," says R. Rajagopal, former editor of The Telegraph.

The inclusion of the Manusmriti in NCERT textbooks raises profound constitutional concerns and question of sociological impact.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar fundamentally rejected Manusmriti, viewing it as a deeply oppressive framework that gave religious sanction to caste-based discrimination, untouchability, and the subjugation of women. Babasaheb had argued in Annihilation of Caste, the Manusmriti is not a mere collection of rules; it is a psychological and social structure designed to legitimise hierarchy, untouchability and perpetuate graded inequality.
Diametrically opposed to the Manusmriti, the Constitution of India, drafted by Babasaheb, represents a decisive and radical departure from the discriminatory and exclusionary social philosophy of Manusmriti. Grounded in constitutional morality, the Constitution is a deliberate commitment to liberty, equality, fraternity, and individual dignity. It fundamentally replaced birth-based privilege with citizenship rights, hierarchy with equality before the law, and inherited discrimination with a robust framework for social justice.
In India, the Manusmriti's legacy of graded inequality and untouchability remains deeply embedded in customary practices that the nation still struggles to dismantle. In a country where the overwhelming majority belongs to historically marginalised communities and half the population comprises women, education must serve as an instrument of emancipation, scientific temper, and egalitarian values. Introducing this text into school curricula will normalise a philosophy inherently tied to caste and gender oppression, directly undermining the vision of Babasaheb and supporting the regressive and casteist vision of Savarkar and Golwalkar.
India’s classrooms must cultivate critical inquiry and social justice, not revive exclusionary doctrine of Manu, which is endorsed by RSS. The moral compass of our education system must remain the Constitution, and not the regressive, anti-India text Manusmriti.

Meanwhile, this is the condition of an ambulance serving tribal areas of Gujarat after 32 years of BJP rule.
Yet, Modi Ji gifts ambulances to a country much far far richer than India, using money paid by Indian taxpayers?🤔🤔
#WhatsApp web and desktop users are being targeted by a large-scale malware distribution campaign that could give criminals unauthorised access and compromise their devices, national cybersecurity watchdog CERT-In said.
The successful execution of a malware attack can lead to remote access of the device by cybercriminals, stealing credentials to carry out fraudulent activities, deploy additional malware, infect the network from which the user is connected, disrupt business, resulting in financial losses.

I have been voting continuously since the 2004 LS polls.
Because my name does not appear in the 2002 SIR database, I have now been asked to submit THREE documents for the current SIR in Delhi.
But the ECI's own information sheet says "Provide ANY document" – and then lists 12.
Set in a small town in Sikkim, Shape of Momo takes us through the journey of Bishnu (a remarkable Gaumaya Gurung), as a daughter of her motherland and a migrant woman in the metropolis, constantly grappling with her identity, beliefs, and politics.
As a daughter “raised like a son” in a largely matriarchal family, Bishnu carries her temper on her sleeves and moves in her world with an unapologetic conviction.
In her latest film, filmmaker Tribeny Rai crafts a tender, yet insightful exploration of migration, womanhood, and belonging.

In its affidavit before the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of India made a remarkable admission: it does not have the power to conclusively determine citizenship.
The SIR process, it assured the Court, was a “liberal, soft-touch” approach. It said SIR was not a rigorous investigation, not an NRC by stealth, not a mechanism to strip citizens of their rights. The verification was purely for electoral purposes. Deletion from rolls would carry no further consequences.
Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls (Voter Lists). If the Booth Level officer (BLO) asks you: "Where was your father registered as a voter in the year 2002?", what should be your reply?
Must-read if you have no idea about that information.

Justice Muralidhar has world's admiration for heading a Commission appointed to look at Israel's war crimes. He's a hero everywhere but in his own country where mainstream media hasn't even bothered to carry reports/editorials on the commission's extraordinary findings.
In Banda, MP, a govt hospital doctor put cough drops meant to clear phlegm into the eyes of a 19 month child, leaving the child permanently blind. This is the state of our govt healthcare. Raise such issues and you're instantly branded a ‘bhosadpiller’
The cashew is a cousin of poison ivy.
It grows inside a shell loaded with the same family of caustic oils, anacardic acid and urushiol-type compounds, that blister skin on contact. The people who shell cashews for a living wear gloves and protective gear and still come away with chemical burns. The shell oil is genuinely nasty stuff, used industrially in resins and brake linings.
Which is why the "raw" cashews in the health food shop are not raw at all. Every cashew you have ever eaten was steamed or roasted first, to drive off the toxic residue. A genuinely raw cashew, straight from the shell, is something you handle with gloves.
So the snack you're sold as wholesome only reaches you after the plant's chemical defences have been cooked out of it.
The rest is worth knowing too. Cashews are the highest-carbohydrate nut on the shelf, around a third starch and sugar by weight, well ahead of almonds or walnuts. They carry phytic acid, which clamps onto minerals and walks them out of you. And they are one of the most serious nut allergens going, capable of putting someone in hospital.
A handful won't poison you. What you're eating is still a heavily processed, high-carb seed from a plant that armours its young in something close to an industrial solvent, sold to you as nature's perfect snack.
Eat them if you like them. Just drop the halo.
