Hitchens was right….”the word “terrorist” is not like “communist” and “fascist” being abused; it is itself abuse. It disguises reality and impoverishes language and makes a banality out of the discussion of war and revolution and politics. It’s the perfect instrument for the cheapening of public opinion and for the intimidation of dissent.”
Thanks @mtracey for sharing this……
At various points when he was a Green Card holder residing in the US, Hitchens certainly supported causes that were denounced as "terrorism," such as Mandela's ANC and the PLO. Here's what he had to say about the term "terrorist"
The Nashville Zoo has launched a public campaign to block construction of a proposed 69,000-square-foot AI data center that would sit directly adjacent to habitats for endangered animals, including vulnerable clouded leopards.
Zoo officials warn that the facility’s constant noise, bright artificial lighting, and electrical hum could seriously disrupt animal behavior, stress levels, and long-established breeding programs. The zoo is home to more than 3,700 animals representing over 350 species and maintains one of the most important collections of rare and endangered wildlife in the United States.
This conflict highlights a growing backlash against the rapid expansion of data centers driven by the AI boom. These facilities require massive amounts of electricity and operate 24 hours a day, prompting communities nationwide to raise concerns about energy consumption, water use, noise pollution, and environmental impacts. Wildlife conservation groups are now joining the resistance.
More than 180,000 people have already signed a petition opposing the project.
The developer behind the data center states that it will use waterless cooling systems, meet all local noise regulations, and comply with environmental standards. However, zoo leaders argue that the location itself, immediately next to sensitive animal habitats, makes the project unacceptable regardless of technical mitigations.
The dispute underscores a broader challenge of the AI era: how to build the vast digital infrastructure needed for artificial intelligence without placing undue pressure on local communities, ecosystems, and wildlife.
@RepLuna Hey. Anna. I saw the videos…..you are a public figure. Act like it. She BRUSHED your am with her hand. I am not even sure if was quite a full brush …….if it were code pink, I would be saying the same thing.
Ridiculous.
@DanCrenshawTX 🙄……if there was a clear conclusion, why are there living witnesses saying otherwise and why are documents still classified?
You’re a pathetic paid propagandist.
Section 622 of S. 4615 does say intelligence sharing with Israel “shall not be suspended, reduced, or otherwise materially limited” except on specific, identifiable national security grounds determined by the President, who must document the rationale and notify congressional intelligence committees within 15 days.
It also directs expanding sharing in areas like counterterrorism, cyber threats, missile defense, and sanctions evasion.
The bill is still pending in the Senate and doesn’t mandate handing over “all our raw signals intelligence.” Context on the full scope and limits matters.

Israel has a policy called “administrative detention” that allows them to kidnap Palestinians and imprison them for 6 month increments without any charges whatsoever. These holdings can drag out for years.
Over 3,000 Palestinians were being held on administrative detention in Israeli prisons on October 7. That’s why Hamas took all those Israelis back to Gaza. To exchange for their release.
But do you see how that works? When Israel kidnaps people and holds them for months and years on end, they are simply “prisoners on administrative detention.” But when Hamas does it, they are “hostages.”
