@RichardHanania Invade Venezuela and take Maduro to shore up the Venezuela angle. Maduro gets a pardon when he cops to rigging the election with Dominion and sleepy Joe.
@HughHansen@pitdesi SLC is a major airport, but original question was why is DEN #6 in the world, far in excess of its population (larger than Chicago, Istanbul, Shanghai, and equal to London). Unique geographic factors and airport was designed to take advantage of them.
@pitdesi@HughHansen SLC is a smaller city and further west which makes it worse for cross country connections. KC well positioned but smaller city. St. Louis had a chance but perhaps too close to Chicago.
@alanthefisher We are procuring Silverliner VI replacements right now and I think making some significant mistakes by making the specifications too prescriptive (make me the old train but new). This is a once in a generation event. Amendments possible before Jan 30.

Core Idea 3:
New trains will outlive SEPTA’s old electrical system. Multi-system EMUs that can also run on 25 kV / 60 Hz keep options open and let future infrastructure upgrades actually pay off.

Just published “The Tricentennial Train” — a vision of what SEPTA’s Silverliner VI fleet could unlock if the RFP focused on performance, not form factor.
Doors → dwell time
Weight → cost
Power → future electrification
Philly deserves a modern EMU.
Core Idea 2:
Doors and floor height drive schedule more than marginal acceleration. Wide dual-leaf doors + near-level boarding are what make frequent, all-day service work.
