In highschool I worked at a fast food place and took it seriously, worked hard. Couldn't get shifts/hours because the manager was stealing from the till so he always wanted to work alone.

Then I worked at a corner store near where we lived. Took it seriously working nights while studying. That franchisee embezzled money and misreported taxes. Didn't get paid for two weeks, store closed.

It's amazing how luck in your first few jobs can set you on a different path.
