Hi all!
I’m looking for College Marching Band Artists, Directors, and Instructional Staff to complete a survey regarding heat illness knowledge, practices, and access to health care providers.
Please share with those that could be interested and eligible in participating!
Goes to show heat-mitigation strategies and appropriate healthcare access is vital in all physically active populations & is why I research what I research!
This is the 1st indicator I've seen that this was EHS related. I'm a research focusing on mitigating heat illnesses in marching band but there's not enough information to conclude EHS yet. Heat-related SCA seems more likely. My heart is with U of Iowa MB & Derek's family.
15 US states & territories have formed a new Public Health Alliance, which will counter the absence of federal leadership by tracking outbreaks, issuing guidance, buying vaccines & more.
Members of the alliance include CA, CO, CT, DE, GU, HI, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, NC, OR, RI, WA.

Made it in to #ACSM2025 Annual Meeting in ATL for the final day to present an abstract. Feels wild to be back in the south but excited to present preliminary dissertation data this afternoon!
As an AT doing a PhD in Prevention of Sudden Death in Sports, I'm BEGGING coaches to stray from militant coaching styles and engage in creating a positive atmosphere that will make your athletes want to do their best. I'm tired of seeing headlines about punishment workouts PLEASE
Reading about the coach-athlete relationship & how this may impact the outcome of EHS events for my dissertation. This paper from 2002 really hits the nail on the head here: "Many coaches adopt a controlling interpersonal style because they believe it will bring better results."
Being a controlling coach will NOT bring you the results you want from your athletes! You have to create buy-in from the athlete. If the athlete doesn't want it, their athletic performance will tank.
Your EAP is not condition specific. It should not be condition specific. Please dont make it condition specific. Please design it to respond to any type of scenario/injury/illness/condition/bear attack/tornado/bee sting.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
Today I realized how much extra work I've been making for myself as I am reading and taking notes for my literature review in Notion.
The glory of synced blocks... if you know, you know.
I work in preventing sudden death in sport. I learn how some athletes die and how some are saved. And it’s a challenge. Today is one of the tough days that makes my work heavy on the heart and the head.
ATs, be proud of your work and your efforts to keep them safe. I see it.
Our newly published #OpenAccess paper in @DovePress explores exertional heat stroke and hyperthermia in running, cycling, triathlon and open water swimming events.
