If someone from minorities speaks about discrimination against minorities it's often termed playing victim card - yeh to hamesha ka rona hai.
If the same atrocity is pointed out by a person from the majority, it makes a whole new impact.
He is Jean Dreze. Crores of Indians don't sleep hungry becoz he helped shaping two of THE most imp govt policies acting as safety net, which has helped millions not fall below poverty line- MGNREGA & NFSA.
Bjp uses these schemes to beg votes.
Jean Drèze was offered freedom after 4 hours in detention. He refused to leave w/o his fellow detainees, many poor Muslims. After 11 hours, police relented. They walked out together
Oh, and when shown the video of a journalist asking who he was, he laughed: “That was hilarious"
Don't miss this story from @khanthefatima 1/2 #DelhiProtest
the nicer thing would be to say that we were inspired by the organising and courage displayed at the Shaheen Bagh and Farmers’ protests, both of which directly challenged the state. but for some reason Saurav has been hell bent on making it seem like nobody has ever protested before in Modi’s rule with statements like this one and “we have awakened the conscience of the youth.” it is quite disrespectful to even political prisoners like Khalid and Sharjeel. you can congratulate yourself all you want but people were there on the battlefield before you and they will be there after you.
Please do not forget the contribution of AISA, SFI, AISF whose leaders, students sat on a hunger strike for more than 20 days despite threats to their health. Thank you for showing us what moral courage looks like @neha_aisa
I’m thinking of Umar Khalid. I think of him everyday. I hope he knows he is wrong- he has not been forgotten. Countless like me keep him in our hearts and minds, we pray for him, fight for his freedom in whatever way we can.
Umar Khalid walked so Gen Z could run.
The battle to end his illegal imprisonment continues.
“For the first time, people are fighting against it.”
We should not judge popular resistance purely by the participation of urban, apolitical masses.
The farmers’ and anti-CAA/NRC protests were among the biggest mobilisations we’ve seen, and they even achieved tangible results.
I wish the parents of Muslim children who were killed in lynching incidents had been platformed too like the parents who lost their children to this paper leak
The ban of meat & egg sale in the open will destroy the livelihoods of small road-side vendors, especially from Dalit & Muslim backgrounds. And it will greatly benefit the business of supermarket chains and big corporates.
Brahmanism 🤝 Capitalism
When horrific incidents occur make no mistake, through the system, our leaders are IMMEDIATELY aware. When months later videos go viral, twitter is aware. If leaders only then respond, it’s to twitter, not horrific incidents. They care about online outrage, not real people.
People outrage as and when they become aware or are allowed to. It takes a specific kind of creepy man to invalidate a crime against a woman by offsetting it against the comparative outrage for another crime against another woman. It’s Masterful whataboutery. Don’t fall for it.
